Last night DLGC welcomed Gertrude Ederle's great niece, Meghan Ederle, poolside. Meghan travelled all the way from the States for the BH commemorative celebrations for her great aunts record of being the 1st woman to swim the English Channel 100 years ago! Meghan also took the time to present our recent successful DLGC channel swimmers Laura Lopez-Bonilla and Ellie Matthews with bouquets. A wonderful way to wrap up a great summer of Channel Swimming achievements.

What a fantastic day at this year Dover Channel Swimming Festival celebrating the amazing Gertrude Ederle 100year anniversary of being the first female to swim the channel. 100 YEARS AGO, SHE MADE WAVES.
THIS BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY, WE HONOUR HER!

In 1926, 20-year-old Gertrude Ederle became the first woman to swim the English Channel, and she broke the existing menโ€™s record in the process!

One hundred years later, Dover Life Guard Club invites swimmers of all abilities to take to the water in celebration of the woman who proved that barriers are there to be broken.

Gertrude Ederle 100th Anniversary Swim
Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August
Dover Harbour
500m novice swim and three x 2km swimming waves
Followed by a carnival procession with a giant puppet of Trudy created by Future Foundry and presentations and live music by Port of Dover
Every swimmer receives a specially designed commemorative swim hat

Whether you are racing, taking on your first open-water challenge or cheering from the shore, come and be part of history.
