It’s been an extremely busy weekend in more ways than one for our club.

Setting off early this morning, Harry Sugars had his first bout back after 10 years out on the Halton Boxing Club show in Widnes. Coaches Nick McGarry and Andrew Davies travelled up to corner Harry, and by all accounts he boxed brilliantly in a great contest. The bout went the full 3 rounds, with the decision going to his opponent from Halton.

Both lads will box again on our home show next weekend, and it promises to be an excellent bout. Well done Harry — it takes some doing getting back in there after all those years out. Nick and Ginger were extremely impressed with how well you boxed.

Over on the Yeovil show, Ollie Lee was top of the bill in a 22-bout show — so yes, he was on last 😂 but that comes with the territory at this level. Ollie boxed brilliantly over the distance to secure the win, and the last round was an absolute barn burner 💪

Well done Ollie — and you’re back out again on our show next weekend as well.

John Biu and Joe Freeman were in today helping push our boxers through their final preparations for our show. John put together a cracking session to test everyone and get them sharp and ready. Joe is going to make a great coach as well, alongside Harry, who is also completing his coaching course.

On Friday night, Taunton ABC brought down Liam Tate to spar Liam Davis, and the lads had some excellent rounds together. Well done to both boxers — it’s all about helping each other improve and grow.

Finally, I just want to thank every single member of our team for their dedication and attention to detail in getting our boxers out competing and prepared properly. The whole club appreciates the time and effort you give up for our boxers.

And to the boxers themselves — we couldn’t be prouder. You travel all over the country to compete, always give everything, and consistently put in great performances. We are proud of every single one of you.

Hi everyone,

I’ll be taking next week off work to have a proper break — it’s been a long time coming.

I won’t be completely away from the boxing club as there’s a lot going on, but I’ll be stepping back from being there all day to recharge. Truthfully, I’ve been feeling quite burned out lately and a bit fed up, not with the coaching itself but with everything that comes with it, so I know a short reset is what I need.

I appreciate everyone’s support and understanding, and I’ll be back feeling refreshed and ready to push on again.

Stay focused, and I’ll see you all the week starting 11th May 🙏

I’ve probably got a reputation for pushing people—and I won’t deny it. But it’s always when it’s needed. Growth doesn’t happen in comfort, and sometimes you’ve got to push through barriers to reach the next level.

Yesterday, Joe, Alfie and Nick were working through a mobility session, focusing on a developmental hamstring stretch we’ve been progressing. The improvements they’re making week by week are exactly why we stay consistent and keep raising the standard.

Progress isn’t always loud—but it’s always earned.

As per poster these sessions are fun and varied to keep everyone engaged. Please share 🙏

A huge well done to Nick Way for losing 35kg.

It’s a challenge Nick has taken on head-on, and it hasn’t been easy. It takes real consistency and discipline to turn up when you don’t want to, break old habits, and put yourself in uncomfortable situations.

That discomfort is now paying off. Nick’s punching faster, performing bodyweight exercises properly (not adapted), lifting more, and recovering quicker. What once felt uncomfortable is now where the rewards are coming from.

Nick only trains with me twice a week, so the credit goes to him. What you do away from the gym matters most. I’m there to encourage and guide him, but the mental health side of training—being part of a group of reprobates 😂 all supporting each other—plays a massive role too.

Well done Nick. Seeing you go through the gears last night genuinely put a smile on my face… and yes, you can now sit on my Swiss ball 🤣

The challenge is set for this group 10 chin ups by the end of the year, the training has started big Da is seen here doing a negative chin up and it’s a wonderful finish 👌
