Race Weekend Review
Back from a solid weekend at Anglesey with NG Race Club. We weren’t even sure we’d make it, but Mike pulled off a miracle, huge effort, huge shift, and somehow the bike was rebuilt in time. We arrived late for Friday testing but still squeezed in four sessions, the bike behaved, and we banked valuable laps.
Saturday James arrived, focused from the first lap of practice and showing real grit. Both boys qualified brilliantly, both setting PBs, Mike lining up 3rd on the grid and James 6th.
I can’t fully explain what happened in the races because, truth be told, I was on edge all weekend, just hoping everything would go smoothly. What I do know is that both boys were on top form and gave absolutely everything.
Mike will say his first two races were a bit messy , concentration, wind, a few factors at play. James will say he was frustrated not making the most of back markers and making a couple of racing decisions that cost him. But the results speak for themselves:
Mike: Race 1 — 4th, Race 2 — 2nd, Race 3 — 2nd, with PBs all weekend and a best of 1:11.9.
James: Race 1 — 5th, Race 2 — 4th, Race 3 — 4th, also PBs all weekend with a best of 1:12.2, his fastest ever lap around Anglesey on any machine.
There is some unbelievable talent on that grid, and the boys were right in the mix. Proper, respectful battles across both days. And although I can’t be 100% certain yet, it looks very much like James is currently leading the Wirral 100 Championship that runs alongside the NG Club
All in all, a brilliant weekend. Thank you to everyone who came to say hello and support. Huge shoutout to Ian for the help, and to all the marshals, medics and officials for a well‑run event. As always, great to see the paddock family, good to have Bec and Ronnie around and visits from Phil (who kept the camp amused).
Next stop: Aintree on the 16th of May for both riders
