Volunteers' Week - Pete C

Pete C has been part of the Community Recycle Cycles family for years — long before he ever joined the workshop team. As a regular customer, he would drop in to browse our ever-changing selection of second-hand bikes, hunt for hidden gems, and pick up the perfect parts for whichever vintage build he was restoring at the time.

That curiosity, passion and hands-on love for bike restoration eventually led him from the shop floor to the workshop bench. Today, Pete brings that same enthusiasm and deep knowledge to every bike he works on — especially the classic and character-rich machines he’s always been drawn to.

His journey from loyal customer to skilled mechanic is exactly what Community Recycle Cycles is all about: giving bikes a second life, supporting riders who care about craftsmanship, and building a community where passion turns into expertise.

Volunteers' Week 2026 - Pete W

Pete W is the steady hand and sharp eye behind our vintage bike collection. With years of mechanical experience and a genuine love for classic engineering, Pete brings every restoration to life with care, precision and respect for the bike’s original character.

Recently completing his Cytech Level Two training, Pete has elevated his craft even further — blending modern expertise with old-school craftsmanship. The result is simple: vintage bikes that ride as beautifully as they look.

Whether it’s a rare frame, a heritage build or a timeless steel classic, Pete ensures each bike leaves our workshop ready for the next chapter of its story.

Volunteers' Week 2025 – Celebrating Doulton

Doulton started volunteering with us and quickly developed a keen interest in working on bikes. He has enjoyed working alongside Harry and Les, which has helped him develop his practical skills and confidence within the workshop environment.

During his time with CRC, Doulton has shown real commitment and a strong willingness to learn new skills. He has consistently demonstrated enthusiasm when taking on new duties and has never been afraid to ask questions when unsure, showing a mature and proactive approach to learning.

When we had the opportunity to send a volunteer on the Cytech Level 1 training course, Doulton was a natural choice. He successfully completed the course at the end of May and embraced the opportunity to further develop his knowledge and skills as a cycle mechanic.

We hope that completing the course has increased Doulton's confidence in his own abilities and will help him continue to grow and develop as a valued member of the team. We look forward to seeing him build on the skills he has learned and continue his progress within the workshop.

We would like to wish Doulton a Happy Birthday.

He's one of our volunteer mechanics.

Volunteers' Week 2026 – Celebrating Harry

Harry first joined Community Recycle Cycles as a volunteer while he was still at school. He quickly developed a passion for working on bikes and enjoyed gaining hands-on experience in the workshop.

His enthusiasm led him to continue volunteering while at college before progressing to an apprenticeship with us. During this time, he successfully completed his Cytech Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, developing a wide range of cycle maintenance and repair skills.

Through hard work and dedication, Harry has now completed his apprenticeship and is a fully qualified cycle mechanic. We are delighted that he has taken on the role of Lead Mechanic at Community Recycle Cycles.

Harry's journey from volunteer to Lead Mechanic is a fantastic example of how volunteering can create opportunities, build confidence, and develop valuable skills.

Congratulations, Harry, on this fantastic achievement! 🚲🎉

🚲 Throughout Volunteers' Week, we'll be sharing some inspiring volunteer case studies, highlighting the journeys, achievements, and experiences of the amazing individuals who make CRC what it is. We can't wait to share their stories with you.

Here's to celebrating our volunteers and all they have achieved – and to the exciting opportunities still to come!
