We had a great time last Friday and this weekend is looking even better. Last few places left to come abd enjoy the stars with us ✨️

‼️ 📸 FINAL PLACES REMAINING 📸‼️

We are now down to the final few places remaining on the late night Astrophotography and UV Landscape Photography session with Mike Bolam this Friday, 16th October.

If Saturday night is anything to go by, it will be a great opportunity to enjoy the dark skies and pick up some advice about how to capture the moment on your camera or mobile phone.

This informal session will run from 10pm until midnight. Feel free to come early and enjoy Hot Chocolate and toasted marshmallows before you start!

We can’t promise clear skies, an aurora or The Milky Way, but we got all three on Saturday night, so who knows what we’ll see on Friday! See previous posts for photos of last weekend.

The early evening stargazing session with Elizabeth Tindal, Freelance Ranger, is now fully booked, but Elizabeth will be around for the late night session with Mike and will be happy to share her knowledge of the dark skies with you too!

The Upper Nithsdale Dark Sky Experience is running this week as part of the new South of Scotland Dark Sky Festival. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We are absolutely overwhelmed by how many people want to join us for what promises to be a fantastic community evening! 💙✨

We have now reached our maximum of 55 people, which is just incredible—thank you so much to everyone who has booked! 🌙🔭🍕☕

One of the great events I'm involved in next week for our Dark Sky Festival. Fingers crossed for clear skies!

🌙✨ WHITHORN TOWN DARK SKY FESTIVAL EVENT ✨🌙

We are super excited for our Dark Sky Festival event on Wednesday 14 October, from 6.30–9pm!

This is an evening for our whole community—of all ages—to come together, celebrate our beautiful dark skies and hopefully enjoy some amazing stargazing! ⭐

We’ll be led by the one and only Elizabeth Tindal, Freelance Ranger, starting at the New Town Hall, where Flaming Gorgeous Pizza will be serving everyone a slice of delicious, handcrafted Neapolitan-style pizza. 🍕

After a short talk about stargazing, we’ll head on a gentle walk to the field beside the play park and look up at the night sky.

We’ll then stop at South Machars Community Centre for some cake and a warming hot drink before walking round to the Roundhouse. You can lie down, sit or simply stand and take in the delights of the sky—hopefully the weather will be on our side! 🌌

The Whithorn Trust will have the fire going at the Roundhouse, where we can finish the evening by toasting marshmallows together. 🔥

⭐ Wrap up warm and bring a torch if you have one!

As part of our Crawick Activity Day on Sunday 20th September there is an opportunity to try pond dipping with Elizabeth Tindal - Freelance Ranger and to ask our photographer Mike Bolam to capture what you find!

Here is a damselfly nymph that Mike himself spotted in the pond yesterday!

Sunday 20th - open from 10am as usual, but with activities running from 11am to 3pm:
