Tuesday 2nd - morning of hell 😢
Thursday 4th - dressing change, a little look at the wound site and wrapped up again 🤕
Monday 8th - dressing off, clip and clean (very very gently) of the wound site. Surprised at the size of it if I’m honest, bigger than I thought initially! We do have a nice looking clot though at the point where the artery was hit which is good. Some swelling (obviously) which we need to monitor over the next week as she did show a lot of tenderness in that area, but again it’s hardly surprising 🙃

Basically; the focus at the moment is the healing process and that we have no secondary infections and so long as Lo stays sound and comfortable we may not need to do any scans 🤞🏻 so it’s still a case of waiting and seeing, lots of meds and all the rest she needs to heal 🩷 taking each day as it comes for now as I think this is going to be a long haul ###

Soaking up some Vitamin D ☀️

Our lovely vet was back out again today for a dressing change and she’s now in a smaller dressing which should be a little more comfortable! Shall post separately with a full update 🫶🏻 was just nice to see her relaxed while the yard was quiet soaking up some warmth on her back 💜🦄

Hoof dressing came off yesterday and full bandage change - managed to get a good look at the wound site. It’s kinda gnarly; again we won’t know more until she’s scanned with regards to the internal structures but she’s weight bearing and sound and very much herself which are all wonderfully big green flags!

We are having to syringe her meds now as she stopped eating which isn’t the most fun task but needs must 😂🙈

Huge thanks to The LEH for all their work and support to Lola to get us through this and our lovely groom Belle for looking after her so much!

Vets back on Monday so hopefully will have more of an update then 🤞🏻💜

There were only 3 words from me and Belle this morning. WTF 😳

Yep. That’s Lola, in the treatment bay at Liphook Equine… being treated for a puncture wound to an artery in her leg, another one to her fetlock, a slice on the inside and a hole in her hoof wall up to the coronet band. What in the actual f*** 😭😭 and no, we have absolutely no idea how or what had happened.

I cannot, truly cannot thank Belle enough for her incredibly quick thinking and everything she did this morning to compress the bleeding despite it absolutely pouring out all over her and the yard - so levelheaded and calm whilst waiting for the emergency vet to arrive.

I’m pleased she was able to come home the same day and it does mean we’re back on the ol box rest game 😔 with a dressing change and assessment on Thursday and again Monday for us to then decide next steps.

How is it you can be literally on such a high and cloud 9 with progress and then BANG 😖😢😢 I won’t lie, for a long moment I was terrified; in all the years I’ve worked with horses I’ve not seen a mess like that - of course Lo was her usual incredible stoic self 💜 shall keep you all posted.

For now it’s a strong and large glass of something and some pizza… 😴

Looking forward to another clinic tomorrow and dare I say I think today is a bit of a quiet day (sssshhhhh 🤫) totally just tempt fate there!

So glad the weather has cooled down too; it was lovely to see all the beans more settled and able to really get some decent REM 🦄🩷
