THE CAPE CLEAR ISLAND RACES
Saturday 29th August 2026
RACE REPORT 🗣️
The inaugural race on Ireland’s most southerly inhabited isle was a massive success!
Thanks to the hundreds of amazing runners that made it to this far flung corner of the Emerald Isle for the first edition of this epic event! 🤩
The brutally beautiful Fastnet Half Marathon & Roaringwater Bay 10K had been over a year in the making and the route was never going to be easy, in fact the route wasn’t even there a year ago, it had to be prised from a rugged, rocky land more accustomed to goats than runners!
We prayed for the weather..
and it didn’t let us down! We couldn’t have had a better day! The sun shone all day and dried the last night’s rain from the trails and lanes before the first race had even begun. It was amazing! 🙂
It’s a tough route.. We pointed that out to all participants well in advance.. We don’t do easy, and our crew are testament to that. Marking the route had taken us two full days before Raceday, but it was well worth the effort.
Our runners had travelled from all four corners of Ireland for this inaugural event, aswell as from the UK, France, and Spain. It was a truly international experience!
We think everyone had a great time and that’s the aim with all of our OuterEdge Events and that’s why we’ll be bringing this one back again next year!
Saturday 28th August is the date for your diaries.. 🙂
* We must take a moment to thank everyone that made this event happen..
First and foremost, without the help and hospitality of the
Cape Clear islanders it would not have been possible at all.
Since the very first moment we approached them with the idea they were all so encouraging and enthusiastic about the prospect of a race on Cape. There’s too many names to list here but they know who they are and we’re extremely grateful for their support and hospitality in seeing this event come to fruition. It’s been a pleasure meeting and working with you all! 🙂
We also need to say a BIG Thankyou to Cape Clear Ferries and to the Cape Clear Distillery for sponsoring the Race and providing our podium places with a bottle of their 3 SQ. MILES Irish Coastal Gin! It’s really good stuff! 🤩
