The growing season is in full swing at the Auchencairn community allotment with peas, beans, brassicas, tomatoes, cucumbers and even watermelons putting in an appearance. All of this veg growing is supported by a vibrant wildlife habitat which provides food for pollinators and other beneficial insects. Diversity is key to a balanced ecosystem, and using permaculture principles, Jen and the other community growers grow healthy food in alignment with nature. To find out more, join them on Mondays 1:30-4:30 in the allotment to help with a variety of seasonal tasks.

Allotment Happenings in Auchencairn!
Community grower Jen and the allotment volunteers have been busy planting, watering, cutting and harvesting as the growing season gets well under way. The climate crisis poses a profound risk to food security, so building and sharing the skills to grow good, local, healthy food has never been more important. If you'd like to know more and get involved in this important project for our community resilience, please pop down to the community allotment on Mondays 1:30-4:30, all are welcome.

For any folk who haven't managed to see any local screenings of this impactful and very sobering film yet, SCCAN are hosting an online screening on 24th June. Link to register for tickets is below.

❗️People's Emergency Briefing: ONLINE screening❗️

📅 Wednesday 24th June | 7-9pm

We are delighted to announce that SCCAN will be holding a special ONLINE screening of the People's Emergency Briefing.

The film, unpacks the reality of the climate and nature crisis in the UK, from food security and extreme weather to the cost of living, while highlighting the credible, community-led solutions within our reach.

Following the film, we will open up the floor for an interactive, hosted discussion to share our reflections, ask questions, and explore what these national insights mean for our local Scottish communities.

EVERYONE IS INVITED and please share far and wide so we can reach as many people as possible, especially those who have not been able to make it to in-person screenings.

We know there have already been many screenings happening in local areas and we really want people who have organised or attended these in the room too!

📍This online session is prioritising accessibility for all and is designed to complement local, in-person action
🤝 We invite organisers, hosts, and attendees of regional screenings to join us to cross-pollinate ideas
💬 Come and share how your local community responded, what questions surfaced in your area
🌱 Let's see how we can work together across the network to deepen our collective impact

Join us on 20th June in Auchencairn for our Home Energy Event. With energy prices on the rise again it's a good time to explore the options to make homes warmer and more energy efficient. There will be a focus on rural housing stock and chance to talk to others who have already had work done to learn from their experiences.

On Saturday ACT organised Emergency Outdoor First Aid training for 10 members of the community. The training was capably provided by Sean from SLP First Aid and, despite the serious subject matter, a fun, interactive and hands-on day was enjoyed by all. Learning and sharing new skills is key to building resilience as a community, and we are pleased to now have so many qualified outdoor first-aiders in our midst! Many thanks to Sean for a great day, and also to Lee Paton for capturing these pictures of the action.
