Wrens U13s 3 - 0 FCS Ronaldos U13s

A tough fixture for Wrens held at Brews Park. The lads were so lucky to have the opportunity to play on the mens team pitch and use the newly refurbished changing rooms which looked superb, kudos to Henry and team and a big thank you to Mark for arranging for use of the ground.

Wrens started a bit slowly and FCS dominated the early possession. After 10 minutes or so Wrens settled into their stride and started to become more comfortable on the ball against a tricky side who pressed well and have good physicality.

TM strode forward to break the deadlock on 20 mintues with an incredible 50/50 challenge and solo run almost the full length of the pitch smashing a rocket into the top corner from 15 yards.

Wrens went in at half time 1-0 after having the better of the chances and possession after TM wonderstrike settled the nerves.

After half time Wrens came out brightly and put some lovely moves together, there could have been a couple of goals early on but for some great blocks and saves from the Ronaldos back line. On around 45 minutes gone JH got his goal which was well earned following tireless chasing down through balls and snapping at the centre backs heals like a Jack Russell. JH caused problems all day.

AS got his goal deep into the second half following his own shot that was well saved with a volley into the roof of the net.

Wrens had a great game allround and controlled the play well seeing the game out confidently.

πŸ† MOTM from John and myself was the whole team as there were so many players who were outstanding against a strong FCS team. Well done to each and every one of the boys.

πŸ† Parents MOTM -MD an all action performance headers, blocks, tackles, clearances recovery runs, it had the lot. MD is clearly loving his football at the minute as his recent performances have been excellent.

Thanks to all the parents for their support, lets try and get a full house at Cottam Hall to support on 10th May for a match which we could clinch the championship league title for Phase 2.

Thursday 23rd April

Wrens U13s 5 vs 0 St Annes Yellows U12s

Wrens stepped up for another night match on Common Edge. The boys took 10 minutes or so to settle into the game which was a little bit scrappy at first. We settled down once we got the first goal a well taken one on one finish by JH. We began to pass the ball really tidily and win it back quickly when we lost possession. HT popped up with a well taken solo goal with a cool finish into the bottom corner. JH bagged another just before half time to take us into the break at 3-0.

After half time Wrens came out of the blocks well dominating possession and getting creative with their attacks. As if the last few weeks of worldies wasn't enough HT thumped one into the top bins from 30 yards that was still rising as it hit the net.

Wrens had a pen saved with a super stop by the Yellows keeper before JH added another late on to seal the win.

The boys all worked really hard and the defence made crucial blocks and clearances and NB in goal kept a clean sheet with good control of his area and one quality stop along the way when he was needed.

πŸ† MOTM - JH
He was everywhere and more importantly kept his frustrations at bay which always allows him to play his best football. All his goals were taken really well and crucially his off the ball work got him in positions which allowed him to get plenty of opportunities. Well done JH.

πŸ₯‡ Player of the Month - FE
A month of all action displays in midfield and excellent focus and behaviour in training, FE is a vital cog in our midfield whose defensive shielding and tenacious tackling freeing others up to get forward and convert opportunities, FE is the unsung hero of the team and has been very consistent all season. Well done FE, keep it up.

The boys played a very well matched Elswick Blues team on Saturday to see off the season.

The boys were a little sloppy in the first half but came out for the second a different team completely and absoloutely ran the game!
The passing, yet again, was superb!!
The boys battled and came back from behind to end the season in style.

A big shout out to every boy for such an amazing season; we've had plenty of highs and lows but best of all we have seen the boys come on so far in their football journeys with LOTS of development due to their hard work and commitment.

πŸ† Manager/Coaches POTM: JH for a solid performance yet again as clever defender and a really good run up front. JH won himself a penalty which he put away beautifully as it smash into the back of the net. This was JH's last league game for the Wrens and we want to say a MASSIVE thank you for his commitment and none stop work rate from the moment he put on the red shirt back when the team first started. He has been with is since the very beginning so on behalf of the whole club, coaches and parents we want to say THANK YOUπŸ—£β€ΌοΈ you will be missed!! 🧱🐎

πŸ† Parents POTM: OP for another fantastic display on the wing. OP simply does not stop, our duracell battery that keeps on giving!
Up the wing, down the wing, tricky feet leaving the opposition dizzy and whips into the box that would have Beckham's jaw dropping 🐎🎯

Well done Blacks for the whole season, roll in the next one!! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Wrens 3-0 BJFF Lasers

It was a pleasant day on Sunday at Common Edge for a change, Wrens entertained Lasers for what is always a competitive game after a 2-2 draw on the Gala Field last time out.

BJ started brightly and Wrens took a while to settle into their game. A couple of half chances fell the way of the Bispham team but fortunately none were converted.

With around 20 minutes gone HT had another potshot with his left foot from outside the box and this wrongfooted the keeper and nestled in the bottom right hand corner to make it 1-0 against the run of play.

With the score at 1-0 Wrens started to knock the ball about more confidently but the Lasers continued to hustle and press every ball. It was nip and tuck for a while with NB making some excellent clearances and claiming the ball well from corners. BJ are a big team and a threat from set pieces so it was great to see NB bouncing back with some great decision making.

JH started on the bench with a view to make an impact when he came on and sure enough within 10 minutes he grabbed his goal, I was pleased for him as he had a frustrating night in front of goal on Thursday down at Seafield Road after putting a lot of effort in.

Half Time 2-0 Wrens

In the second half Wren's started brightly although struggled to convert chances, we controlled the game well but didn't capitalise in front of goal. NB made a cracking save to keep the score at 2-0 before a foul just inside the opposition half led to HT stepping up for the free kick. This week he made no mistake option for height and power over curl and finesse. What a difference it made as the knuckleball sailed into the roof of the net with real dip and venom.

Once the third went in Wrens saw the game out well and were economical in possession, any threats were dealt with swiftly by the back four. The game was a bit scruffy at times with lots of turnovers of possession and some physical one on ones. Overall though another win to keep our unbeaten run going against a team that is definitely better than their league position suggests.

πŸ† Managers MOTM - HT

Another dominant midfield performance and another brace to cement his credentials as an all round midfielder. HT is a confidence player in front of goal and at the minute pretty much every shot is making the keeper work. Keep it Up!

πŸ† Coaches MOTM -AS

An excellent display at Left back, AS was neat and tidy with the ball and despite his small stature really held his own with some great tackles and battles against taller stronger wingers. When AS moved into Left midfield he also created some great opportunities and played with his head up looking to release the forwards or switch the play.

On to another midweek game on Thursday next up St Annes Yellows U12s on Common Edge.

16th April

YMCA Blacks 1-5 Wrens

Wrens were entertained by YMCA on a fine night at Seafield Road. After a cagey first 15 minutes or so Wrens took the lead and made it 2 ten minutes before half time with 2 cool finishes from TH.

Wrens played some great passing football when playing out from the back but on occasion overplayed and held on to the ball too long, overall though a vast improvement on last time out.

HT popped up with another left footed strike with power and accuracy, TM and LF both scored tidy near post headers from corners and showed our threat from set pieces.

The defence played well and made many important clearances and NB in goals didn't have to make too many saves.

πŸ† Managers MOTM- TH
Only had a half to make an impact as he had to leave early but what a 35 minutes it was. He pressed high and was a threat every time he got the ball with his quick feet and direct running, he scored two goals and was very unlucky not to bag a hat trick, the second goal was a lovely chip over the keeper and showed real quality. I wouldn't normally give a man of the match at half time, but TH was a different player today from last week so I felt he deserved it early.

πŸ† We normally give parents the opportunity to vote for their player of the match but we were unanimous that LB should get the trophy this game for his work rate, technical skill and always looking to play forward, he also tracked back really well if he got tackled on a number of occasions. After a patchy few weeks with injuries and holidays he was back with a bang today.

Thornton Pumas 1-2 Wrens

Well done to the boys on grinding out a difficult game winning 2-1 vs Thornton Pumas

πŸ† Managers MOTM-MD
Loads of quality clearances and composure on the ball. Always felt like he had the better of their wingers.

πŸ† Parents MOTM-NB
He didnt have loads to do as the defence played well but when he had to make a save in the second half it was class.

Special mention for Sheps block too.
