Guess what? We're recruiting. And if our feed from the last month is anything to go by, so is every club in Durham and Northumberland. Brilliant! There are loads of great clubs around and the more players involved in the game the better. Here's some reasons Ashington might be for you;

🟦 Maybe you've just moved to the area.
🟦Maybe you've been out of the game for a few years and want to get back into it.
🟦Maybe you played as a junior and want to try senior rugby.
🟦Maybe you like cheap, good quality Guinness.
🟦Maybe you played most of last season as a 2nd team bench warmer and are worried about 2nd teams in national leagues having to limit their squad size to 18 for next season, further reducing your opportunities for game time.
🟦Maybe you just want to enjoy your rugby at an inclusive welcoming club with opportunities for all and a clear pathway for progression.
🟦Maybe you're fed up of generic recruitment posts which seem soulless. We can all say we play whatever level of National Structure and that we have qualified coaches and pitch side practitioners.
🟦Maybe royal blue and amber looks good on you.

In the 2006/07 season Ashington JW RFC 3rd XV were in league Northumberland 3B, which was one league ABOVE the club's 2nd XV who were in Northumberland. 3C! Given this past pedigree we were disappointed with the local organising committees decision to reject our 3rd XV application to be parachuted into North East Counties 1 for the 2026/27 season. Nevertheless, here is the (almost confirmed) lineup for the coming 1st XV campaign.

A significant reduction in travel is most welcome, as are all the new additions to the league from last season. Northern have renamed their 2s from Wanderers to Wanders; possibly hoping to create some magic on the pitch. Alnwick and Morpeth 2s are no strangers to our 1s, with local cup competitions pairing us frequently in recent years. Blaydon is a ground we haven't visited with our 1s for a number of years and we look forward to it. Novo's (although they've dropped the plural) are flying high and it will be a pleasure to welcome some of Twickenham's heroes to The Rec.

Old pals Wallsend and Gosforth are back up with us and some familiarity remains with Westoe, Rockliff, North Shields and Jarrovians completing an exciting level 8.

Bring it on!
