🚲 Gently easing Jason back into the saddle today with a wee assisted pootle along some of the Cateran Trail from Kirkton of Glen Isla.

🌧️ Second thoughts were had on our way up for a night in the van as we encountered about three weeks worth of rain in the last mile to our pitch for the night.

🏞️ Angus is so often overlooked for outdoor adventure (we're often guilty of jumping the county lines for wir fun times ourselves), despite having some of the most beautiful glen roads and trails (almost) on our doorstep in Angus. The Glen Isla roads are proper chefs kiss tarmac - though it was a shame to find most of the previously helpful simple off road signage along the way was either in disrepair or faded to the point of being illegible.

🧭 So, while we were trying to avoid the reliance on 'tech', a few of our miles were spent turning back on wirselves - always uphill, of course - much to Jason's displeasure.

💨 Highlight was the avenue of heady gorse warmed by the blazing sunshine as we upped the short (and steep) section of Kilry Road. Though, Jason reports he couldn't smell it for breathing through his bahookie!

🍽️ Refuel at while the hounds kept guard of wir bikes, though they are in fact very dog friendly there!

🚲 One of our favourite things at ABC is hearing all about everyone's cycling adventures. I hate a yap, ken?!

It's not everyone uses their bike for every single trip ever made. Not everyone is away to the Alps every summer on a mountainous mission. Jumping off stuff on your steed isn't everyone's jam. And that's alright. As far as we're concerned, if you ride a bike, you're a cyclist.

My ride buddy today won't mind me saying, came to cycling *much* later in life not having learned as a child. Once an avid (read: addicted) runner, she took to cycling when an injury meant she could no longer put in the miles on her feet.

And she still gets nervous on new roads on the bike she's ridden for many years. And that's alright too.

Stronger State Sunday Socials are not about mountainous missions, nor race speeds, and definitely not jumping off stuff.

They're the kinda rides you get to know that kinda of stuff about your riding buddies while enjoying some of our quietest country roads.

We spoke to Anne and her colleagues at Key, a not-for-profit housing and social care provider, on the impact that new secure cycle storage has had for them and the people they support.

As well as supporting tenants to use their bikes more to access outdoor areas and nearby parks, the new storage is also giving Key staff the confidence to use their bikes to travel to work more often.

"You’ve got complete freedom to get on your bike from work", Anne shared. "I feel cycling to work leaves me feeling perked up in the morning, and then you get home and you’re relaxed. It just makes you feel really good."

📢Public service announcement 📢

❌ A reminder, we are closed today, Tuesday.

🚳 We had planned an extra day to get away on the trails this weekend, but Jason's off his bike for healing for the foreseeable, and we've some catching up to do.

ℹ️ There will be movement in the shop today, but this feels like the perfect time to share some helpful advice.

🛑 If you arrive to the shop at any point and the door looks like this, with the 'closed' sign positioned purposefully at approximate eye level, we are in fact, closed.

🕑 It might seem like stating the obvious, but this also applies outside of our usual opening hours. Also positioned intentionally for ease of information.

📝 Sometimes there might be additional information about holiday closures, or a test-ride situation where only one of us in the shop by themselves. Simple measures designed to handle your expectations realistically.

We often work beyond opening hours on the things we can't do whilst chatting all things bikes with customers. Today, our priority is getting caught up with those bookings delayed by workshop closure.

⭐ Extra top tip: if the door looks like this *and* it's locked *and* the front shop is in darkness, please don't knock the window, we are closed.

Like ours, we know that many of your families will have been affected by su***de.

We know that it's a difficult subject, whether you are living with suicidal thoughts or have lost a loved one to su***de.

Kelly having previously worked with Reach Across as a facilitator, we also know how important organisations like Reach Across are in their efforts to allow people the space to find their own way to discuss su***de.

So, we will be cycling the full 150km Ride the North route on Saturday 29th August, to raise funds for Reach Across and their men's activities.

🖼️ A golden oldie from the archives for attention! A rare snap of Jason having enjoyed some indoor cycling, me not so much!

☹️ Bad news: Jason is under strict instructions to take it easy the next couple of days. So there is *no workshop activity tomorrow*.

We've called in some reinforcements to help catch up before reopening Wednesday. I *think* I've been in touch with everyone affected. If I've missed you, I'm sorry - I'm on all of the duties.

☺️ Good news: "take it easy" isn't part of my vocabulary, so we'll be open for bookings, sales and enquiries 9am to 4pm tomorrow, Saturday as usual.
