BROTHOCK SHOTOKAN KARATE CLUB
VOLUNTEERS' WEEK 2026
Dear Volunteers, Supporters and Friends,
As we mark Volunteers' Week, I would like to take a moment, on behalf of Brothock Shotokan Karate Club, to express my sincere thanks to everyone who gives their time, energy and support to our club.
Whilst karate training may take place on the dojo floor, the reality is that our club could not function without the many people working quietly behind the scenes. Whether you serve on the Organising Committee, assist with fundraising, support events and competitions, help with administration, coach classes, provide transport, prepare refreshments, take photographs, organise raffles, maintain facilities, or simply step forward whenever help is needed, your contribution is valued and appreciated.
I would like to make special mention of those who hold key responsibilities on behalf of the club, including Wendy Whyte (Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer), Deborah Black (Deputy Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer), Jason Middleton (Licensing Officer) and Chris Grewar (Treasurer). Their commitment, professionalism and willingness to accept responsibility on behalf of the club helps ensure that Brothock continues to operate safely, effectively and in the best interests of our members.
That said, I would love to thank every volunteer personally by name. However, experience tells me that if I attempted to do so, I would inevitably miss someone who has made an important contribution to the club. Please know that your efforts have not gone unnoticed. Whether your contribution is visible to everyone or takes place quietly behind the scenes, you know who you are, and you have my sincere thanks and appreciation.
The success of our club is not measured solely by grades, medals or trophies. It is measured by the positive experiences we create for our members, the opportunities we provide for young people and adults, and the welcoming community we continue to build together. Every volunteer plays a part in making that happen.
Over the past year alone, we have celebrated our 40th Anniversary, hosted major competitions, expanded our community programmes, supported new initiatives such as Guardian Girls and Young Leaders, delivered First Aid training, developed new instructors and continued to invest in the future of the club. None of this would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers.
Volunteering is often unseen and rarely seeks recognition, yet its impact is felt throughout every aspect of club life. Your willingness to give your time helps create opportunities, friendships, confidence and memories that will remain with our members for years to come.
To every instructor, committee member, parent, supporter, volunteer and friend of the club, thank you. Your contribution, no matter how large or small, helps make Brothock Shotokan Karate Club the special place it is today.
On behalf of all our members, please accept my heartfelt thanks and appreciation during Volunteers' Week.
With gratitude,
W. Wales
