Disc golf is so popular in Latvia that it has led to projects such as the Kleistu Eco-Park, a major new urban development initiative in the capital, Riga, with a disc golf course at the heart of its design!
Spanning no less than 35 hectares of sustainable sports and active recreation facilities and located just 15 minutes from Riga’s city center, a key component of this project is the creation of a premier 18 hole professional disc golf course, designed to become the largest and most modern disc golf venue in Latvia.
The facilities will include a clubhouse with dining options and a pro shop, beginner-friendly courses, and other leisure, outdoor, and nature activities for the whole family.
The opening will take place September 4-6, 2026, with the hosting of their first event, with plans to continue expanding their reach both nationally and internationally.
Last Tuesday, July 28, we met with CEO Janis Bazevics and Project Manager Laura Zvejniece ( [email protected] ) to explore, together with the PDGA Country Coordinator and the Latvian National Association, potential areas of collaboration regarding the project’s design and implementation, communication, and international competitions.
Disc golf continues to move forward. See you soon at Kleistu Eco-Park!
