AEGEAN 600 - mini round the world race for the maxi class. 🌊

With near photo finishes, calms, strong winds, sudden gusts, joy, terror and some amazing scenery, this year’s Aegean 600 was like a mini round the world race for the 10 maxi yachts competing within the record-sized fleet of 71.

Line honours went to Claudio Demartis’ longer, sleeker 90ft Prosecco DOC Shockwave³ who had to fend off George Procopiou’s wider, more powerful VO70 Aiolos - and both having to keep a keen eye on the modern 50 footers Palanad 4 and Daguet 5 that at times were up with the maxi leaders.

Big wind AEGEAN 600 lies ahead for the maxi yacht favourites.

The sixth Aegean 600 may be another brutal one. Following today's 1400 start from beneath the Temple of Poseidon at the tip of Greece’s Sounion peninsula, a 25-knot Meltemi should propel the 10 maxi yachts competing off down the course.🇬🇷

Still among the newest of the world’s ‘600-mile offshore races’, the Aegean 600 is organised by the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC) and Olympic Marine and is the penultimate event in the International Maxi Association’s annual Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge.🌊

📰🏆Atalanta II and Proteus top Loro Piana Giraglia maxi classes.

With the magnificent 71ft Sangermani ketch Eugenia V finishing at 04:59:10 this morning, all the classics bringing up the rear of the maxi fleet in the Loro Piana Giraglia’s offshore race finally arrived in Genoa this afternoon.

The maxi results from the 4️⃣ days of inshore/coastal races, that took place from Saint-Tropez last week over 13-16 June and the offshore race have now been combined.

Coming out on top is Yacht Club Italiano member Carlo A Puri Negri and his Atalanta II, the team is also now the clear leader the IMA’s 2025-26 Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge on 198 points.

Meanwhile in the larger maxi class George Sakellaris’ Maxi 72 Proteus prevailed in the combined results ahead of event sponsor Pier Luigi Loro Piana’s 80ft My Song and Alessandro Del Bono’s Capricorno.

📰 Maxis home in faster than expected Loro Piana Giraglia offshore

Stronger-than-forecast winds transformed the Loro Piana Giraglia, with the leading maxis beating their routing by as much as 12 hours on the passage to Genoa. ARCA SGR edged past Magic Carpet e in the closing stages.
