Sport Manitoba is the Fund Manager in Manitoba.

Please make sure to select “Bison Butte trails - (Mb Cycling Association)” from the donation menu.

Trail Conditions - Nov 12 - All sections are very soft and muddy due to the freeze thaw cycle. The frost brings moisture to the top and the surface doesn't dry up enough during the day right now. Please wait until the ground is frozen and the temperature stays below freezing, to prevent damaging the trails.

October 22 - Conditions are very muddy and soft in all areas with all the recent rain. Using the trails right now will damage them. If your tires leave ruts at all or your shoes leave footprints, it's too wet. Hopefully the dry weather forecast will help and the conditions will improve.

10/04/2025

The Bison Butte trails are currently wet and muddy due to the storm last night. Using the trails in their present state would cause damage. In light of the forecast for later today and tomorrow, we kindly request that you refrain from using the trails this weekend.

The final Dig Night of 2025 was a huge success this past Wednesday! Thank you to the dedicated volunteers —so much maintenance was accomplished!

The theme of the night was fixing some of the erosion that has occurred over the 2025 season. There was a lot of dirt moved and trails reshaped to help improve drainage, reduce further erosion and most important, improve the riding conditions.

One group did a lot of pruning back branches in the forest section and also removed loose gravel on some climbs and downhills.

A new water bar was added below the rock drops to help with drainage and reduce future erosion.

The Green DH that heads north was very narrow and eroded, but it has been greatly improved with a huge amount of hoe work to remove the sharp trail edges.

The trail at the north end, behind Cabelas also had a lot of work to reduce the eroded cupping of the trail by hoeing off the edges, making the trail tread wider in areas. A lot more work is needed along that section of trail, but it was a great start to fixing the issues.

The first climb on the west side also had a tonne of dirt work done on eroded corners, filling the eroded trail tread and adding drainage where needed.

Post Dig, we had a great time hanging out, enjoyed refreshments and congrats to those who won the draw prizes! Showing up pays off!

A huge thanks to all the volunteers that came out this year. Thank you!

The Last Dig Night of the Year — You’re Invited!

This has been an amazing summer of Dig Nights at Bison Butte and you’re all invited to the very LAST ONE taking place TOMORROW (Wednesday) at 6:00pm.

If you attended one of the Dig Nights earlier this year supported by Woodcock Cycle, Olympia Cycle & Ski, Alter Ego Sports or Bikes & Beyond, we’d love to have you back one final time to help us make the Butte look amazing and celebrate an incredible year of volunteerism on these trails. If you didn’t yet make it out this year, this is your final chance. Come on over!

As always, it is super important that you RSVP to help us plan appropriately for the evening (location details are at this link too). Please do so here: https://forms.gle/aMwkF228iMZ7iNtq8

It’s that time of year. WRAP PARTY TIME!

With that crisp fall air hitting pretty hard in the mornings, that means only one thing…that the final Dig Night at Bison Butte is just around the corner! In fact, it will be taking place next week, September 17th at 6pm. This will be a shorter night due to sunset, but come out on for your final big opportunity to help shape the success of the butte. Riding has been incredible there this year and the volunteers that come out to these Dig Nights are a HUGE part of the reason for that.

To help us plan out the work priorities and snacks and drinks, please RSVP here: https://forms.gle/aMwkF228iMZ7iNtq8

We’re excited to celebrate the success of the best season yet of Dig Nights for Bison Butte. The number of volunteer hours put into the trails this year set a new record and it shows! Thank you all!

Come out and celebrate with us one final time next week Wednesday at 6pm. Details are all located at: https://forms.gle/aMwkF228iMZ7iNtq8

See you then!

Sept 4 - Today’s rain (we hope you have not ridden the trails today) may be providing the Bison Butte Committee with early answers for three test installations of water bars that went in at the Butte last night. As seen in the first two before/after images, water bars are installed in areas where additional drainage is required and where erosion is sometimes too frequent an issue. They are made by installed vertically positioned boards that act to move water in an angled direction off of the trail and into surrounding vegetation (not unlike traditional drains that are dug off the sides of trail).

For the main trail that heads off the hill toward the rock drops, two water bars along with traditional drains were installed, not to mention, a lot of nearly 18” deep rutted trail was rebuilt (again, see the before/after photos). The large berm on the “C line” has yet to have its rutting fixed but with any luck, these water mitigation measures should allow for its repair in the coming weeks.

A third water bar and roller was installed at the start of the green flow trail that heads NE off the hill.

We hope everyone has stayed off of the trail during today’s rain and gives it at least the day tomorrow to dry up. These water bars are a test to see how they work and will be evaluated over the coming year to determine their effectiveness.

Happy trails! (But stay off until probably Saturday.)

👉 2-3 volunteers needed tomorrow

The Bison Butte Committee is organizing a small dirt work crew for tomorrow (Wednesday) evening to address some trail erosion and rutting issues and is looking for 2-3 volunteers to join this group. This work will require digging and shoveling material so we’d love for a few people to join us who are ready to get sweaty. Please DM us here if you are able to join.

We only need a few people for this job so if we fill up quickly, remember our final main Dig Night for the season will be on September 17th.

Thanks all.

August 27 - The trails are all dry and some maintenance was completed this morning. All four jumps in the jump line have had the ruts on the landings fixed. The major erosion after the hip jump has been fixed and the second roller on the Back40 DH has been "toned down". A major section of erosion was also fixed on the island. There are still several other eroded areas, so please ride alert.
