The Junior Pan Pacific Championships were held August 17–20 at the UBC Aquatic Centre in Vancouver, bringing together more than 300 of the fastest junior swimmers from countries including Japan, the USA, Australia, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, and Singapore.
Each final featured 10 swimmers, with a maximum of two athletes from each country allowed in the A and B finals. This added another level of pressure: swimmers not only had to post a time fast enough to qualify for a second swim, but also had to finish among the top two from their country to earn the opportunity to represent their nation in the final.
GAVIN’S RESULTS:
100BK: Prelims -56.03 (0.4 PB) 8th. A final.  56.12 tied for 8th in lane 8.  Gavin was the TOP Canadian in this event. 👏
50 BK: Prelims- 26.45 to tie for 11th place (3 ties in the top rankings 3rd, 9th and 11th).  Gavin had to do a Swim off for the 10th spot in the A final 10min after his race.  He clocked a 26.48 to win the swim off and earn his spot in the A final. (9th fastest time).
A final- 26.17 in an outside lane.  With another tie in the bronze medal position.  Gavin placed 10th in a very tight field that was separated by only 1.01sec.  Gavin was also the TOP Canadian in this event. Â
200BK- 2:08.99. 23rd.  This is an event that Gavin continues to grow in.  He gains experience and knowledge every time he swims it. Â
Gavin swam third in the 4x100 free A relay and clocked a 50.67 split. He had the second fastest time for the team. Team Canada was 4th overall. Â
50 free- 23.92. Just 0.08 sec off his best time. Prelims place- 25th in a field where everyone from 7th to 28th swam the event within the 23rd second! He was first alternate for the B final.Â
