Worried how to get your first client? It’s easier than you think!

👉🏽First clients find you because someone they trust mentioned your name!👈🏽

1. Tell everyone you know you are taking clients. So many folks skip this step because they’re a bit shy about their business.

•Put up a Facebook post on your personal page
•Text 25 people and let them know
•Put a flyer up at your library, church, rec centre, gym, school, hospital.

2. Jump into your local Facebook parenting groups and introduce yourself.

Don’t pitch! Just help and answer questions with evidence based care. Build a name for yourself that way.

3. Introduce yourself to the local doulas and tell them your niche and find out there’s for cross promotion.

This one’s for you birth nerds… 🤓

During pregnancy, fetal cells cross the placenta and enter the birthing person’s body. Some of those cells can stay for decades.

What’s even wilder?

Researchers have found that these cells appear to migrate toward areas of injury. In studies of peripartum cardiomyopathy, a form of heart failure that happens around birth, fetal cells have been found in damaged heart tissue, where they may help support repair and regeneration.

Think about that for a second.

Your baby is not just growing inside you.

Your baby may actually be helping rebuild parts of you.

We spend so much time talking about what pregnancy takes from people.
But pregnancy is also a profound biological relationship that science is still trying to understand.

As doulas, we support people through one of the most complex transformations the human body can experience. Not just emotionally. Not just socially. Not just physically.

A lot of people have heard the word doula, but aren't quite sure what doulas actually do.

At its heart, doula work is about support.

Doulas offer emotional support, comfort measures during labor, evidence-based information, and a steady presence throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

They don't replace doctors, midwives, or other healthcare providers. Instead, they work alongside the care team to help clients feel heard, informed, and supported in their choices.

Sometimes, having someone in your corner can make all the difference.

Most people don't wake up one day and decide to become a doula.

It usually starts much earlier.

Maybe they supported a friend through pregnancy.
Maybe they became fascinated by birth.
Maybe they saw firsthand how much a caring presence can matter.

The skills come later.

What often comes first is the desire to help someone feel supported during one of the biggest moments of their life.
