Anyone who knows hockey understands just how difficult it is to make the QMJHL in your draft year. For most players, it takes years of development, persistence and fighting for an opportunity before earning a full-time roster spot.
When Jayden first reached out to us, we knew pretty quickly that he was a special talent. The type of player that doesn’t come around very often.
Fast forward to this summer, arguably the most important summer of his hockey career to date.
Jayden didn’t complicate his development.
He committed to his two skates a week. He committed to his off-ice training. He trusted the process.
But there’s another part of his summer that people don’t see.
Any time there was an opportunity to get an extra skate in, Jayden wanted it.
It didn’t matter whose name was on the ice beside him. It didn’t matter if it was our top groups or if he was jumping on with our U15 and high-school athletes. He showed up, worked, competed and treated every rep like an opportunity to get better.
There’s an important lesson in that.
Development isn’t about chasing the biggest names in the rink or worrying about who is standing beside you in line.
It’s about what YOU bring to the ice.
Your heart. Your determination. Your consistency. Your willingness to be coached. Your willingness to work when nobody is watching.
Put that mindset inside a true development structure, with coaches who care about your progression and a program built around actually making players better, and special things can happen.
Jayden is proof of that.
We couldn’t be prouder to officially say that Jayden has earned a spot on the final roster of the Les Olympiques de Gatineau in his draft year.
An unbelievable accomplishment, but knowing him, this is only the beginning.
Congratulations buddy. Go make some noise in the Q.
And when the season is over, we’ll see you back at the rink.
