💚 Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month – June 💚

This June, our Under 18.5 football team is proud to support Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a global campaign dedicated to breaking down the stigma around mental health and encouraging men to seek support when they need it.

The club is incredibly proud of the initiative shown by our Under 18.5 players in bringing this campaign forward and helping raise awareness around such an important issue. Their willingness to advocate for mental health demonstrates leadership, maturity and a genuine commitment to supporting their mates both on and off the field.

To show our support and help raise awareness, our Under 18.5 players will be wearing green armbands during our next two home games.

Too often, men feel pressure to “man up” and face challenges alone. The reality is that having conversations, checking in on mates and reaching out for help can make a real difference.

This month, we encourage everyone to:

💚 Check in on a mate
💚 Start a conversation
💚 Listen without judgement
💚 Reach out for support when needed

Mental health affects everyone. Whether it’s a teammate, friend, family member or workmate, a simple conversation can have a lasting impact.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available:

📞 Beyond Blue – 1300 22 4636 (24/7 support and counselling)
📞 South West Healthcare Mental Health & Wellbeing Service – 1800 808 284 (24-hour phone support)
📞 Lifeline – 13 11 14 (24/7 crisis support)

No one has to face life’s challenges alone.

Together, we can help create a community where talking about mental health is encouraged and seeking support is seen as a sign of strength.

We welcome the Timboon Demons to the Lions Den for what shapes as another terrific day of football and netball. This will be the half way mark of the home and away season and we will circle back and play everyone again.

It has been a horrible week of weather, but hopefully the rain has moved on by the time Saturday arrives. We’ll have the coffee machine firing and egg and bacon rolls ready to help keep the cold at bay.

There are plenty of important matchups across the day.

🏐 Netball
• 13&U (4th) take on the 2nd placed Demons in a great test for the girls.
• 17&U (6th) meet the 5th placed Demons with both sides sitting on four wins. A huge game.
• A Grade (7th) face the 8th placed Demons in a match both teams will be desperate to win.

🏉 Football
• Under 13s are neck and neck on the ladder with Timboon as both sides push towards the top five.
• The Under 16s find themselves in a very similar position, making this another vital clash.
• The Under 18s shapes as a quality contest between two top five sides.
• In the Reserves, less than 3% separates our boys and the 5th placed Demons. A massive game for finals aspirations.
• The Seniors should provide a terrific spectacle. Sitting 4th and 6th respectively, both sides have shown strong form. Timboon have pushed some very good teams in recent weeks, while the Lions are coming off a strong second half last Saturday.

Get down to the Den and support all our teams.
Then stick around for ferret racing!
Open to the whole family , come and see what it’s all about !

🏁 Ferret Racing This Saturday! 🏁

This weekend we welcome Whitey’s Ferret Racing to South Rovers for a fun filled, family friendly night.

The names are in, the races are sponsored, and everything is set for an action packed evening as these furry speedsters rattle their way through the PVC tubes chasing ferret racing glory.

Just how quick are they?

🦦 Ferrets can reach speeds of up to 24 km/h
📏 They can grow to around 50 to 60cm long
😴 They can sleep for up to 18 hours a day

So does this weekend’s champion spend all day resting before exploding into action on race night? We’re about to find out.

While they might not beat our Rovers boys in a foot race, they’ll certainly put on a show.

Bring the family, bring your friends, and come along for a great night of entertainment.

All welcome. Family friendly event. 🦁🏁🦦

Round 8 Recap 🦁

The Lions travelled down to Noorat to take on the Power in Round 8. It was a cold day, but thankfully the rain stayed away for most of it, allowing for a great day of football and netball played in terrific spirits.

In the junior netball, our 11&U girls were involved in an absolute thriller as both sides searched for their first win of the season. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for our young Lions, but they more than doubled their season goal tally and continue to improve every week.

The 13&U girls kept the pressure on with another strong victory, while B Grade continued their impressive season with a great win to remain firmly in the top five. In A Grade, the girls battled hard but were unable to turn a three quarter time lead into four points.

Over on the football field, our Under 13.5 footballers got the day off to a perfect start with a commanding victory. Harrison Leach was outstanding, booting seven majors in a best on ground performance.

While the rest of the club was at Noorat, our Under 16s travelled to Nirranda and returned home with the four points after a strong win.

The Under 18s and Reserves also recorded impressive victories before our Senior footballers completed a successful day for the footy program. The boys won every quarter on their way to a 57 point win, with a terrific mix of youth and experience leading the way. Brandan Lynch made his senior debut, while Under 18 graduate Jack Hope kicked seven goals. Zac Urquhart and Sandy Williams were influential contributors, but it was a genuine team performance across the board.

Next week we return to our home deck to welcome the Demons before backing it up with our inaugural Ferret Racing Night. This family friendly event is open to everyone, so come along and see just how fast these little critters can race through the pipes.

A huge thank you to our Round 8 sponsors.
