ROUND 6 - 3rds

Thirds v Deakin Blue.
The Bears travelled to the University for the clash and won 7 to 6 in a nail biter.
The Bears started strong scoring 2 runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings, which could have been more leaving 5 runners stranded on base. The evergreen Chris Dunn was on the mound again for the Bears. He had a 3 up 3 down first innings with 2 Ks and allowed only one run in the 2nd with 2 more Ks, securing the Bears a 4 to 1 lead.
The Bears left another couple of runners on in the top of the 3rd but failed to score. Deakin got a couple of batters on in the bottom of the 3rd and we got 2 outs before a misplay allowed the 2 runners to score and the next batter drove in that runner for the 3rd unearned run to tie the score. The innings closed when the Deakin runner was out when he was hit by the batted ball.
In the top of the 4th, Rbi singles to Ben Hickey and Rhys Batty put us back in front 6 to 4 though we left another 2 runners on base. Another Bears miscue in the bottom of the 4th gave Deakin another unearned run, reducing the Bears lead to 6 to 5.
In the top of the 5th the Bears got 2 hits and 2 walks to push in another run, but left another 3 on base. The lead was extended to 7 to 5 going into the bottom of the 5th, which was the last innings as we had reached cutoff time. The Bears got the first out, before a couple of hits and a walk loaded the bases with 1 out. The next batter lifted a soft fly ball that just cleared the out stretched glove of the back peddling 3rd baseman. This drove in a run, but the Deakin runner on 2nd who held up on the fly ball was forced out at 3rd base for the 2nd out. Deakin still had the tying run at 2nd and the winning run at 1st, when Chris Dunn struck out the next batter to win the game.
Chris Dunn pitched the 5 innings with 7 Ks and only 2 Earned Runs.
The Bears batted the full list of 12 players and stats were spread across the players. There were 7 players with 1 hit, 7 players scored 1 run, there were 10 walks and 1 hit by pitch, there were 4 players with 1 Rbi and Rhys Batty had 2 Rbi.
Next week we return to the University to take on Deakin Gold on Sat at 2.25pm.

ROUND 7 - 3rds

Thirds v Deakin Gold
The Bears travelled to the University for the clash and could not contain the Deakin hitters taking the loss 6 to 24.
The Bears bats where quiet for the first 3 innings, with a hit by Roland Stott the only base runner. The Deakin hitters started strong as they scored 14 runs in their first 2 innings. The only bright spot in the Bears fielding was the bottom of the 3rd when Matt Connell pitched a scoreless innings, only allowing one hit.
The Bears bats came out in the top of the 4th scoring 3 runs from a walk to Chris Dunn and hits to Tully McLean, Matt Connell and Roland Stott.
But, Deakin continued their strong hitting in the bottom of the 4th plating another 10 runs.
The Bears scored another 3 runs in the top of the 5th. A Deakin error, a walk and a hit to Jai Harrison-Roberts loaded the bases for Chris Dunn who batted in 2 runs with a single.
Next Week: The Thirds have a Bye, which was created when Werribee withdrew their team from the Thirds Division.
