(no mind, no thought, no reflection)

"Empty your mind of it's concepts and expectations and fall without anything to cling to into the void and you will discover what I am not saying" (Zen master Yan). Aikido is a way of developing oneself to be open to be available to embrace possibilities from all directions. The Aikidoka endeavours through training, through

practice, with others in the dojo, to cultivate and embody the virtues of Bushido: Integrity, Respect, Courage, Honour, Compassion, Honesty, and Loyalty. Thereby these virtues are maintained outside the dojo, encouraging the Aikidoka to be a person with an open heart.

Remember that Aikido is expansive.
We lengthen as we extend.

We extend out we past the point of contact. This involves not just open and energized fingers and palm, but the whole coordinated body.
The fingers, palm and hand integrate into the forearm and elbow, shoulder and back, center and legs.
Allow the body to become ‘filled’ and balanced, create the dynamic.
Minimize reflexive muscle activation, move past using muscle, use less and less segmented strength.

Lengthening/expanding adds a dynamic quality that assigns weight to the undersides bringing about a ‘relaxed’ (not rigid) strength.
Notice the sensation, practice to experience.

A few points regarding ‘learning’ …

Be discipline and committed, show up even when we may not want to.
Remember what appears effortless is not always that easy, it usually entails a lot of work.

Note that discomfort is an intregal part of learning.
Growth often entails working outside of our comfort zone.
Remember that correction can provide essential information.
And that criticism will test our fortitude to continue.

Contribute consistently to our own personal study.
Remember that choosing to be precise and consciously aware changes things.
Know that there is magic in the details.

Keep standards high.
Remain fluid and adaptable.
Become aware that evolution is also part of the process.
The ability to change helps us remain flexible, open and versatile, become contextually rich.

Lastly, nurture a ‘silent’ intellectual and physical engagement to reveal a Power in Stillness for self-reflection, awareness, and focus.
