I started Jiu Jitsu at 18. I immediately fell in love with it. The movements, the challenges, the people. So I stuck around and after 12 years I earned my black belt. 🥋
But something didn’t feel right, I wanted to share this amazing experience and bring more people to experience what I have felt all these years. And so with that drive in mind, I started Behan Jiu Jitsu. 🤙🏼
5 years ago I started this with 15 people and was covering rent out of my own pocket. I know Gabs thought I was crazy and I don’t blame her. I was worried, full of doubt but we both stuck it out and believed in the future.
I had a passion, a mat, and an honest belief that this community was worth betting on. đź’Ż
There were nights I questioned everything. Whether I was doing the right thing. Whether the numbers would work. Whether I was crazy to think a gym in Toowoomba could be something truly meaningful like what I felt when I first started.
Then one day I walked away from a full time job. No safety net. No guarantee. Just a gut feeling and the people who kept showing up.
That was the scariest thing I have ever done. This time was truly intense for myself and my young family.
But those 15 people became 30, not over night. But then a shift, and another. Before I knew, we outgrew the space we were in. So we took another leap and built 70 Water St from the ground up
Opening night was approaching and I as been building non stop and coaching. Over 60 members walked through those doors. I stood there and genuinely didn’t know what to do with myself.
Now we are 5 years in. Two premises. Hundreds of hours of building, upgrading and growing. Now we have over 200 members in our adults and kids programs!
And I want to be honest with you.
None of that is me.
That is every single person who chose this gym. Who drove here on the nights they didn’t feel like it. Who tapped and came back. Who brought their kids in. Who told a mate about us. Who trusted us with their time.
You are Behan Jiu Jitsu.
My family and I are just grateful every single day that you gave us the chance to build something worth being part of.
From the bottom of my heart - thank you.
