Meet the coaches on a more personal level... outside the world of reps and sets in the studio!
My love for movement started before I can even remember, with dance. Calisthenics from age 2 for 10 years, then jazz and contemporary in high school, followed by a couple of years of pole dancing before I stepped away from dance altogether. Last year I stepped out of my comfort zone again with social Salsa classes, fell instantly in love, and (in true Alana fashion) went full steam ahead, adding private lessons and extra classes and before I knew it was at my first competition, coming away with 1st place in the Salsa!
Horses were the biggest part of my life growing up (yes, I was the dorky horse girl). When I moved to Melbourne, training for stage and adjusting to adult life meant giving up riding. But after returning to Shepparton and opening Cut Above Coaching, I was offered the chance to take on a young racehorse, which snowballed into buying and selling horses, and eventually turning to pursuing the scary world of dressage for the first time!
Beyond the physical, I have a deep passion for personal growth and pushing your own limits. Battling depression, anxiety and eating disorders myself, I believe in appreciation of your past while looking to the future. I constantly seek to put myself into situations that make me uncomfortable, social anxiety? I forced myself practically hyperventilating to dine at a restaurant ALONE… this is now one of my hobbies! It still makes me uncomfortable at times but the empowerment of doing it trumps it, as well as meeting some incredible people along the way!
All of this gives me a well-rounded eye in my work, the ability to read changes in posture, form, timing and injury, as well as the emotional and mental cues for when to push and when to ease off. Strength training and Pilates become the tools that keep your body strong, functional and ready for whatever movement life throws at you.
