Dori — Quality project/ broodmare prospect 🖤

Dori retired from racing in February and is still very much at the beginning of her post-racing education. She is athletic, forward-thinking and quite sensitive. She is not suitable for a beginner, nervous rider or someone looking for a quiet, straightforward horse.

She needs an experienced, confident rider who understands OTTBs and is happy to take things slowly, establish the basics and give her plenty of consistency.

She has no bucking, rearing or dirtiness. On the ground she is lovely and quiet to handle, has good feet and is generally straightforward to have around.

In the right hands I think she could be a rewarding project for someone who enjoys a sharper, more forward type.

She is also a beautiful mare with great breeding & would suit someone looking for a quality broodmare prospect.

Another lovely review this time from Oakfield Earth (Ivys) new owner 🥹

Finding the right match for both horse and rider is something I take so much pride in, especially when it comes to young OTT horses starting their life after racing.

There’s something so rewarding about coaching 🤍

I genuinely love being able to help riders build confidence, understand their horses a little better and work towards their goals — whether that’s improving the small things at home or achieving something they’ve been working towards for months.

Seeing that moment when something finally clicks for a horse and rider will never get old.

So grateful I get to call this part of my job. 🐴✨

YOUR OTTB DOESN’T WORK TO YOUR TIMELINE. 🤍

One thing I wish more people understood about retraining Thoroughbreds is that there is no rush.

When they come off the track, everything changes — their routine, fitness, feeding, body shape, workload and often their whole way of thinking.

Sometimes they lose topline.
Sometimes they drop weight.
Their feet and coat can change.
Their racing muscle disappears before the right muscle starts to develop.

And that’s okay.

You do not need to be riding, jumping or competing just because someone else is.

Slow doesn’t mean you’re behind.

Take the time to check their feet, teeth, body, tack and overall comfort. Build the groundwork. Build the strength. Let them learn to relax and understand their new job.

If they aren’t ready — wait.

There is no prize for rushing a freshly retired OTTB.

Every horse is different and every horse will progress at a different pace.

Listen to the horse in front of you.
Trust the process.
Trust the horse.
Give it time.

Because the goal isn’t to retrain them the fastest.

It’s to set them up properly for the rest of their life. 🤍
