17 December 2025

Hello,

After long, significant consideration and input from many stakeholders the Committee of the Burrawang Easter Market Association advises that the very difficult decision has been made not to proceed with the 2026 Burrawang Easter Market.

This decision particularly weighs heavily on the Committee given the market’s long and successful history, and its continued popularity with stall holders, volunteers, visitors and many local residents. However, a number of significant factors have led us to this conclusion.

These include ongoing works within the village at the School of Arts, the Burrawang Hotel and the General Store, the rising costs associated with running the market, challenges in securing sufficient volunteer numbers, and increasing difficulties related to parking and other logistics required to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the 7,000–10,000 visitors who attend.

In addition, the market is currently being managed by a smaller organising committee. This is alongside divided sentiment within the village regarding the event continuing.

Taken together, these challenges mean we need to take time to carefully consider how and where the market can be run in the future in a way that best serves all stakeholders.

It remains our intention to run the Burrawang Easter Market in 2027. Over the coming period, the Committee will focus on developing a more sustainable and cost-effective plan that delivers the best possible outcomes for residents, stall holders, volunteers and the various not-for-profit organisations that benefit from the market’s financial support.

We sincerely apologise for the timing of this announcement, particularly as it comes close to many of your own planning for 2026. The Committee felt it was important, however, to ensure this decision was made with careful consideration and in the best interests of everyone involved.

We hope we can count on your continued support as we work towards the future of the Burrawang Easter Market. We will remain in touch and provide periodic updates as our planning progresses.

On behalf of the Committee, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and thank you for your ongoing support of the Burrawang Easter Market.

Yours Sincerely,

Committee
Burrawang Easter Markets Association

2025 Burrawang Easter Market - Sat 19th April

Traffic Arrangements – see map for one-way traffic flow and please be patient with any congestion. We expect 7,000+ visitors to our small village on the day and we do our very best to help traffic flow smoothly. However, at times congestion may occur.

Parking - $10 per car (same as previous years). Pay for parking by card (preferred) or cash at any time throughout the day at Pay Stations located at the Market Area entrances at corner of Hoddle and Church Streets and corner of Dale & Crown Streets.

You will be issued with a PAID wristband which you will need to Exit the car parks. Please don’t forget to pay before returning to your car.

We are occasionally asked “Why should I have to pay for parking?” For more than 40 years the purpose of the Burrawang Easter Market has been to raise funds for local not-for-profit community groups. After paying market expenses, funds will be donated to local NFP groups.

Accessible Parking – This year, disabled parking areas have been set aside in each general car park rather than in separate car parks. Three drop-off and pick-up points are available at market area entrances. See maps for locations and look out for signs.

No Dogs Please – this is a sincere request for the safety of visitors and animals. Numerous potentially serious injuries occurred last year as well as an altercation between two dogs. Of course, service dogs are always welcome.

No Dogs Please – Burrawang Easter Markets

This matter was always going to please some but not others. In the end, safety and enjoyment of market visitors has been prioritised.

Written and verbal feedback received from last year’s market indicated real concern about dogs in the very crowded market space. Examples below:

- It was quite hot and it's lovely people bring their dogs along, though many were not coping in the heat or with the crowds.

- Please consider a no dog policy!! So many dog fights, dogs tripping people and dogs getting hurt by being accidentally kicked or stepped on. With 1000’s of people it’s just not appropriate to bring a dog.

- My only issue is all the dogs! Whilst I love animals they don’t belong in a crowded environment such as this market as just way too many people. Too many people let the leashes out, I saw people getting tripped and almost fell myself.

- I’m a dog owner myself and love to take my dogs out for adventures but the amount of dogs around versus people was just too busy for dogs in a very crowded environment.

A request was published in the Burrawang Herald about a month ago:

“We love dogs and they are normally more than welcome in the village. But not with 7,000 visitors in a small market area. Last year, we had multiple potentially serious injuries with market visitors tripping over dog leads and a very distressing altercation between two dogs. So, the only safe solution for both humans and dogs is to ask everyone to leave their dogs at home for market day.”

A similar message has been posted on the Burrawang Easter Market website since that time:

“For the safety of attendees at the market we kindly request that you leave your pets at home.”

Signage promoting the market includes the message:

"No Dogs Please
for the safety of visitors and animals
(service dogs welcome"
Any signage saying “No Dogs Allowed” has been updated:
