What an incredible four days of Junior Golf we recently hosted in Port Augusta, the commitment and enthusiasm toward this sport was certainly on display and I want to sincerely thank everyone who played a part in making this happen. Your efforts reflect on us all and continued to showcase our beautiful city.
The Port Augusta Golf Club welcomed junior golfers from across South Australia to participate in several events, across four days. This included the 2026 Port Augusta Junior Open, the SA Country Junior Championships, and the Allan Telford Cup. Players and their families travelled from clubs including Grange, Glenelg, Waikerie and Mannum to compete alongside our own very talented golfers.
Congratulations to all winners and runners-up who achieved fantastic results across each division. It was particularly exciting to see our local juniors feature among the results and I certainly look forward to following their ongoing successes. There is such a strong group of young players here in Port Augusta and the ongoing support provided by the club and many volunteers has been outstanding.
I had the opportunity to visit the course during the event and see the competition firsthand. What stood out most was the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere created by the Port Augusta Golf Club. Visitors were greeted with genuine country hospitality and made to feel at home from the moment they arrived.
The beautifully maintained course and excellent facilities also received many positive comments from players and families, highlighting what a fantastic venue the Port Augusta Golf Club is for a regional event.
Council would like to also congratulate the Port Augusta Golf Club on its recent success in securing Stage One grant funding towards a kitchen upgrade, its looking fabulous!
Port Augusta is also preparing to welcome more visitors from across Australia for the upcoming TACTIC Conference. This conference brings together people from a range of industries to share ideas, hear from inspiring speakers and explore the opportunities shaping regional Australia.
The conference has become an annual event on Port Augustaโs calendar and is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our city while bringing visitors, delegates and economic activity into our community.
A key part of successfully hosting events like TACTIC is having great local facilities, and our Central Oval precinct continues to be a wonderful asset for the community, it provides an ideal space for conferences, sporting events and community gatherings.
Not every event held in our community is something everyone will attend or see firsthand, but many events bring hundreds โ and sometimes thousands โ of visitors, participants and supporters into Port Augusta. These events create opportunities for people to connect and showcase our city and region, and they provide positive flow-on benefits for local businesses and us all. Thanks for doing your bit in promoting our beautiful city.
