Our training sessions are cancelled this weekend and next as we take a break from our regular programming to host a weekend long workshop this weekend, and our annual tournament War in the West next weekend. Our weekday training sessions are unaffected.

If you want to see the action up close, feel free to join us as a spectator for War in the West - 29-31 May. First bouts from ~0830 each day.

We hosted our annual internal last weekend, and had an exceptional day of fencing. The skill level and quality of fencing is only going up at Ursa Major, and it's great to see. This was one of our member's first tournaments and he made it out of the pools - an amazing achievement for someone so new!

We love having visitors at The Den. When a travelling fencer stops by it's always a pleasure to meet and fence them - and recently we had the pleasure of hosting an old friend. Ron stopped by for a bit of sparring while he was in town and showed us all a few new tricks - great to see you again mate, stop by any time.

Today we hosted our internal longsword tournament, with 20 competitors vying for the gold. It was a great day of fighting, with some participants taking part in their first every tournament.

It turns out, you can. Our first ladies who longsword, and second women's introductory swordplay class was a smash hit. We had nine new faces eager to get a grip on longsword, and 3 of our most experienced female members ensured they left the session ready to join our regular classes.

Now that's what I call a sticky situation!

We recently kicked off our single-stick classes - and the response has been overwhelming. While historically a training tool for military sabre, the single-stick existed as an independent system in its own right - and these sessions explore its use in both a military and recreational context.

Aided by out lovely new artwork, the next generation of stick fighters and sabreurs are learning quickly. Sabre will resume in July - keep an eye out for details, and see you at training, legends ⚔️ 🐻 💪
