Penguin Classic - Reminders

With a capacity field entered for tomorrow’s Penguin Classic, can all players please remember to:

- Arrive on time - 8:30 for a 9:00 shotgun start.

- Please DO NOT park on Dial Road as this causes dangerous congestion. There are plenty of spaces inside the course boundaries - eg: between 5th/8th, or at your starting tee.

- Please have correct entry fee of $15 per player

- Have fun and keep up a good pace of play

All the greens are being scarified and so course maintenance staff will be working on multiple greens at any one time.

Dear entitled/selfish person

Yes you. The one who keeps using our manicured fairways as your personal practice spot.

Please cease and desist this behaviour !!

Removing great swathes of turf and replacing them with bunkers is not on our bingo card, and we are 100% certain that if a player in our regular competitions ends up in one it’s not going to make their day. Did you know it will take 6-8 weeks for this turf to repair itself ??

So go ahead and use our perfectly good practice facilities opposite the sports club for this kind of drill - especially to fix that out-to-in swing that you’ve got going.

A true stalwart of Tasmanian Golf.

The Chair, Board and Staff of Golf Tasmania (GT) express their deepest sympathy at the passing of much respected former Tasmanian Golf Council (TGC) President, Northern Golf office bearer and junior golf coordinator, Mr. Trevor Atkinson, aged 93 years.

A member of the Launceston, Prospect Vale and Greens Beach Golf Clubs during the 80s, 90s and 2000s, Trevor was TGC President on two occasions. As Vice President in 1989, he became President at the passing of the existing office bearer. He was then subsequently elected as TGC President later in the same year and served two two-year terms.

Trevor’s extensive TGC involvement included being a selector and managing the Tasmanian Junior and Colts teams for six years from 1989. He also served on the TGC Championship Committee and the Golf Tasmania Junior Development Committee.

Trevor’s devotion to golf administration had also seen him serve Northern Golf from the 1980’s onwards, including two terms as Association President from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1996 to 1998. Trevor was elected as a Life Member of Northern Golf in October 2014.

Over his lifetime, Trevor made an outstanding contribution to Tasmanian Golf, particularly via his involvement with and passion for junior golf.

Golf Tasmania’s sincere condolences are extended to his wife, Shirley, daughters, Susan and Gail and the Atkinson family at this time. Trevor was a thorough gentleman with a passion for golf, a friend to all and will be sadly missed.

So so disappointing when someone treats the course like their own practice range.

We have a perfectly good practice fairway and nets but they would rather damage the course for others to try and use after them.

All course users are reminded that practice on the course itself is limited to playing social golf with a maximum of 2 balls in play at any time.

If you need to do this to our golf greens - then seriously - have a rethink about whether golf is the game for you.

Go take up 10 pin bowling or maybe even wood chopping.

Where have our practice mats wandered off to ??

Two near-new practice mats have decided to go elsewhere - so you can see we’ve had to put the old, worn ones in their place. 😟 (and a length of black rubber matting from the right hand side too!).

Soooo - if someone you know has suddenly set themselves up with some items similar to what’s in the photo - you know where they have come from. (Nope - they weren’t a bargain on Marketplace. “Tell him he’s dreamin”. )
