This is what a Head, Neck + Jaw training day looks like 🤍

We work through the whole treatment from the thoracic spine, shoulders and back of the neck, through to anterior neck work, positioning, facial release and intraoral techniques.

But the biggest focus is on actually doing it.

You’ll practise each technique, feel the releases yourself, learn how to protect your own body while treating and then put everything into practice with real clients.

My next Head, Neck + Jaw training day in Brisbane is specifically for physiotherapists on 11 December.

If you’re a physio who wants to feel more confident treating head, neck and jaw presentations in clinic, you can find all the details via the link in my bio 🤍

A little look inside one of my Head, Neck + Jaw training days 🤍

These are very hands-on sessions. We work through lymphatic and myofascial release, neck and base of skull work, facial techniques, SCM, masseter and intraoral release, with plenty of time to practise each technique and experience what it actually feels like yourself.

Then we bring it all together and apply what we’ve learnt with real clients, so you leave feeling confident actually using the techniques in clinic.

My next Brisbane training day is 22 October for massage therapists, and I’ll be running a dedicated Head, Neck + Jaw training day for physiotherapists in December.

If you’d love to learn with me, send me a DM or head to the link in my bio for upcoming dates 🤍

The best part of a vocal Head, Neck + Jaw treatment is always the retest 🎤

After working through Gavin’s jaw, neck and surrounding tissues, we finished by getting him singing again and checking how everything felt.

His voice felt softer, his positioning had changed and we’d taken a lot of tension out through the front of his neck.

Then came the homework - keeping on top of that SCM so he can maintain the changes between sessions.

And yes… “Fingers In My Mouth” made one final appearance 😂

Such a fun session with Gavin James.

I’ll be waiting for my songwriting credit on the next album 😂

Nothing like an intraoral release to inspire a brand new song.

Gavin James taking vocal treatment very seriously, obviously.

One of my favourite parts of working with singers is getting them to keep using their voice throughout treatment so we can hear and feel the changes as we go.

“Fingers In My Mouth” coming soon 🤠

Starting the intraoral part of Gavin James’ vocal Head, Neck + Jaw treatment 🎤

This is where I work through some of the deeper tissues inside the mouth that can contribute to jaw tension and restriction around the voice.

I’ll always talk the client through what I’m doing, keep checking in on pressure and give them plenty of opportunities to pause or swallow as we go.

And apparently this particular treatment also provides excellent songwriting inspiration… more on that soon

This is what a vocal Head, Neck + Jaw treatment looks like from start to finish 🎤

Gavin James came in after a big run of shows and travel, feeling tight and congested through the front of his neck and jaw.

We worked through the back and front of his neck, SCM, jaw and intraoral tissue, before finishing with the hyoid.

And then he casually walked down the stairs singing THAT note 😂

Safe to say the voice was feeling pretty good by the end. 🤍

Before I put my hands on anything, I want to understand what the voice has been doing first.

came in while navigating some recent vocal changes, so we started by looking at his posture, neck tension and the way he was holding through the front of his neck.

For singers, I’m never looking at the voice in isolation. The jaw, neck, breathing mechanics and surrounding tissues all matter.

Then we get to work!

Such a fun one to treat, and plenty more from this session to come.

A few new faces here lately, so I thought I’d properly introduce myself 🤍

I’m Kathleen, a physiotherapist and the founder of Move Better.co

My path into physio definitely wasn’t linear. I struggled at uni, failed first-year anatomy, built a huge caseload, burnt out, left the profession altogether and genuinely wasn’t sure I’d come back.

Then COVID happened, old patients started reaching out, I began doing home visits and eventually rented a tiny room in a local gym.

That was the beginning of Move Better.co

Over the years, my work naturally became more specialised in all things head, neck and jaw, and somewhere along the way I found the part of physiotherapy that I absolutely love.

Now I get to treat my beautiful patients, keep learning, and teach other practitioners the techniques I’ve spent years developing.

It took me a little while to work out where I fitted.

I’m very glad I kept going. 🤍

This is why I don’t treat the jaw without looking at the neck.

A Head, Neck + Jaw treatment with me works through the whole chain: thoracic spine, chest, shoulders, front and back of the neck, face and finally the intraoral work.

By the time we get to the jaw, everything around it has already had a chance to let go.

If you’re carrying tension through your neck, face or jaw, you can book a Head, Neck + Jaw appointment via the link in my bio.

And if you’re a practitioner who wants to feel more confident helping your own patients with head, neck and jaw pain, my online training courses are now available too 🤍
