Let’s here it for FOOTWORK

So often I hear that footwork is omitted or cast aside because it’s ’boring’ or ‘repetitive’ but in fact it is everything but.

Footwork is the beginning of the Reformer repertoire and truly one of the most important skills you can master.

It sets you up for everything else you will do in your class, and in your life. And is the foundation for alignment and strength.

Plus, you can make it sexy - like this! 🥰

My swan angels 🦢

Sometimes cues don’t need to be complicated. They just need to be simple and keep your room moving as best as they can.

When I watch my goal in a complete flow state, I let them relish in it and just cue alongside them not at them.

And your friendly reminder to teach prone 😚🫶🏼

Moments from Purposeful Prenatal Programming 💕

This workshop took a deep dive into managing the group, and moving pregnant clients with safety and purpose in mixed groups.

I know how daunting it can be to manage a group class with multiple pathologies, and I know how valuable it is for prenatal Pilates girls to keep training with the group in a way that not only flows, but is functional to their changing alignment.

Programming for prenatal and mixed groups is a key topic of education in the Aligned Mother Online Course - a 5+ hour self paced learning that will ascend you into a confident and capable perinatal teacher. 💕✨

Teaser x Spine Corrector 2.0 🤍

Bron and I have been working on her Teaser lately and here we are doing Teaser 1, 2 and 3 (yes there are three teasers!) on the arc.

Notice how I use my legs to ground Bron’s feet and keep her feeling energy through her whole midline and at both ends of her body.

So often in Teaser, the legs can give us trouble and while this does come from the powerhouse, having feedback on the longest lever can really help to ‘close the chain’ ⛓️

Teachers, remember that you are part of the exercise and yet, get used to holding feet!

Touch 💞🫶🏼

One of the unique attributes that Pilates has as a movement modality is the relationship between student and teacher and the role of tactile cues in a private and group environment.

Being tactile with a client is not only a privilege but it’s also one of the most powerful things you can do to enhance and validate their movement. 🤗

Note here that I’m not necessarily correcting my client but instead guiding her, assisting her and moving alongside her. I’m cueing her - but cueing her for confirmation, not for correction.

If you’re a Pilates teacher, remember that with your clients consent, tactile corrections are a pillar of your teaching and a very important cueing skill.

If you’re in a Pilates class and your teacher gives you hands on adjustment, remember that we’re not always trying to correct you but sometimes to validate and enhance your movement and acknowledge your body.

What is your favourite tactile cue?

Reformer Teacher Training 🩷

In the Alignment Academy teacher training we really emphasise the role of tactile queueing in each and every piece of repertoire and not only teach you the verbal cues but the correct tactile cues for exercise exercises.

Horseback 🦄🫶🏼

I’ll never stop harping on about how much I love horseback and how much you grow to love it once you persevere with it.

it’s an exercise that has a peculiar setup and requires quite a lot of strength, coordination and a little bit of confidence.

For learning, I actually love to teach it without any strap tension so you can play around with the lift and understand more of the energy coming from the powerhouse, than coming from your springs.

Horseback is an exercise that we teach in many ways during our reformer teacher training. Well, you might not teach it every day. It is such an important part of the classical repertoire and has so many Pilates principles built into it.
