Get Active Program

Get Active Program Managed by Womensport & Recreation Tasmania the Get Active Program aims to help people feel the benefits of being physically active in a supportive way.

The Get Active Program (GAP) is proudly managed by Womensport & Recreation Tasmania (WSRT). It is a statewide initiative that aims to enhance the health and wellbeing of women and men through involvement in physical activity, and to encourage healthy eating habits. Participants take part in a 10-week series of 2-hour workshops, the first hour of which covers such issues as motivation, stress management, self-esteem, nutrition and goal setting. The second hour is spent participating in fun physical activities which the group itself chooses. Activities such as Tai Chi, aqua aerobics, bush walking, boxing, yoga, cycling, kayaking, Nordic Walking & Zumba have all been incorporated in GAP’s, just to name a few!

We know a great program that helps you connect with your community!

Day 5 of Women's Health Week is to connect 🤝

On the final day of Women's Health Week, we're celebrating the power of human connection in all its forms – the voice message to a friend, the community group you've been meaning to try or the coffee with a neighbour.

Social connection has lasting impacts on our health – helping you live longer, build resilience and feel more confident. And yet, for many of us, it often quietly falls to the bottom of the list.

Today we're exploring what real, healthy connection looks like and how to nurture it, even when you're short on time or energy. Whether you've been feeling isolated or you want to help others feel less alone, today is for you.

Day 2 of Women's Health Week is to move 🏃‍♀️

Being active is not just for people who love the gym. It's for everyone – in all bodies, at all life stages and in whatever form fits your day.

Exercise doesn't have to be intense or structured to make a difference. Regular movement built into everyday life has real benefits for your physical health, mental wellbeing and energy levels.

We know the barriers all too well – time, energy, cost, pain, caring responsibilities and self-doubt. And for women living with disability or chronic illness, being active might come with additional challenges. Today is for all of you.

Awesome day today at the Cambridge Golf Park with the Sorell Get Active group. So many laughs especially when one of my balls hit the metal divider on the driving range and bounced backwards towards those watching! Such positive comments and many of the group said they would be back as we had the option to play mini golf or use the driving range or both.

Day 1 of Women's Health Week is to fuel 🥗

Food is fuel. But eating well can feel like one more thing on an already long list – too expensive, too time-consuming or just too hard to get right.

So let's get back to basics.

Today we're exploring practical nutrition tips, expert insights and the simple food habits that can make a real difference to how you feel. Because when it comes to eating well, doing it anyway doesn't have to mean doing it perfectly.

Whether it's adding more protein to your breakfast, eating more vegetables at dinner, or simply remembering to eat lunch – it all counts. Today is about finding what works for you.
