π STATEMENT FROM THE MOUNT ISA AFL LEAGUE COMMITTEE β 2026 SEASON π
The Mount Isa AFL League Committee would like to provide the following update to ensure clarity and transparency regarding the Mount Isa Tigers' participation and eligibility for the remainder of the 2026 season.
β οΈ 2026 FINALS ELIGIBILITY
Following consideration of the 2026 AFL Mount Isa By-Laws, competition requirements, the Mount Isa Tigers' participation throughout the 2026 season, and the club's current outstanding financial obligations, the Committee has determined that the Mount Isa Tigers are not eligible to participate in the 2026 AFL Mount Isa Finals Series.
Throughout the 2026 season, the Mount Isa Tigers have forfeited multiple scheduled matches and have been unable to consistently field a full registered team.
The Committee has therefore determined that the Tigers have not met the requirements necessary to participate in the 2026 finals series, as outlined within the 2026 AFL Mount Isa By-Laws and competition requirements.
Finals eligibility is not determined solely by a team's position on the ladder. Clubs are required to meet the relevant participation, registration, team and financial requirements throughout the season.
π° OUTSTANDING FEES AND FINES
The Mount Isa Tigers also have outstanding association fees and fines that remain unpaid.
All clubs participating in AFL Mount Isa are required to meet their financial obligations to the Association. These requirements apply equally to every club and are essential to ensuring the competition operates fairly, responsibly and sustainably.
The outstanding fees and fines remain payable regardless of the Tigers' finals eligibility.
Should the outstanding financial obligations remain unpaid following the conclusion of the finals series, the Mount Isa Tigers will not be eligible to rejoin or participate in the AFL Mount Isa competition in the following season until all outstanding amounts owed to the Association have been paid in full.
π§ FORMAL NOTIFICATION
The AFL Mount Isa Committee has formally communicated this decision and the associated requirements to the Mount Isa Tigers Committee via email and social media.
The Tigers Committee has therefore been formally notified and is fully aware of the Committee's decision regarding their 2026 finals eligibility, outstanding fees and fines, and the requirements for any future participation in the Association.
The Committee acknowledges the effort, commitment and passion shown by the Mount Isa Tigers and their players throughout the 2026 season and recognises the important role that football and the Tigers have played within the Mount Isa community.
The Committee remains committed to working collaboratively with all clubs and stakeholders to support the continued growth and sustainability of football in Mount Isa. Any future participation by the Mount Isa Tigers will remain subject to the Association's By-Laws, financial requirements, registration requirements and any other applicable competition requirements.
The AFL Mount Isa Committee has a responsibility to apply its rules and requirements fairly and consistently across all participating clubs, and will continue to uphold the 2026 AFL Mount Isa By-Laws in the best interests of the competition.
