The Mount Clear Cricket Club has been in existence for more than 100 years, joining the A Grade competition in 1949. The Eastern Oval was their home ground, and later minor grades used White Flat. In 1981, all grades moved back home to Mt. Clear, with first and second eleven using the University Oval. The club merged with the Ross Creek Cricket Club in 1958, to help comply with the condition of af

filiation with the Ballarat Cricket Association stating that first eleven teams could not compete unless a second eleven could also take the field. The merger proved very fruitful to the club with the acquisition of Allan Spratling and 7 Tuddenham brothers. Allan went on to be president of the club for over 40 years, while the Tuddenham family is a famous one at Mt. Clear due to their skill and competitive spirit. During the first 20 years of A Grade affiliation the club experienced sustained success, competing in 15 finals series, winning 6 premierships. In total, the clubโ€™s first eleven has competed in 39 finals series for 22 grand final appearances and 12 premierships. This represents a culture of success for over 50 years that the club is keen to see continue. The culture of success was further developed with four 1st XI premierships between 1997/98 and 2007/08. Clear has participated in 10 of the past 12 finals series in โ€˜Aโ€™ Grade. Players from this era are still involved with the club and striving for further success. Clear cricket club has won in excess of 50 premierships. In 1949 the club only had one team. A decision to continue to promote and foster junior grades has enabled Mount Clear to become a very strong club with five senior and three junior teams. The current squad of players come to a club with a proud history and opportunity to continue to grow the reputation of Mt. Clear with a culture of success and enjoyment.

The Mt Clear Cricket Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of past player Graeme Crowl.

Graeme was a valued and much-respected member of our club, playing over 200 games in the blue and white. A true clubman, he achieved the rare honour of being a premiership player across the 1st XI in 56/57, 2nd XI in 65-66 and 3rd XI in 67-68, highlighting his commitment, versatility, and team-first attitude.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution, Graeme was awarded Life Membership and was named Best Clubman in the 1976/77 season, a reflection of the impact he had both on and off the field.

On behalf of everyone at Mt Clear Cricket Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Graemeโ€™s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest in peace, Graeme. โ›ฐ๏ธโ›ฐ๏ธโ›ฐ๏ธ

A huge congratulations to our very own Steve Young on being recognised at the Cricket Victoria Awards on Friday! ๐Ÿ‘

Representing the Mount Clear Cricket Club with pride, Steve was part of the team honoured with the Inclusion & Diversity Initiative of the Year at the Cricket Victoria Community Cricket Awards โ€” a fantastic achievement for our entire club.

During the week, Mt Clear Cricket Club was officially announced as the winner of this prestigious award for 2025/26, recognising the outstanding work done across the club to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. The award highlighted not only the range of initiatives delivered, but also the proactive leadership of the committee, the inclusive family culture built by players and their families, and the tireless efforts of coaches and volunteers to remove barriers and grow participation in cricket.

Some of the standout initiatives included the Mountie All-Abilities Program, strong junior-to-senior pathways for boys and girls, full cricket pathways for girls, women and non-binary players, the MountieADVANCE off-season program, and the inaugural TapeBall Tournament which created a vibrant and inclusive space for people from diverse cultural backgrounds. All of this has been driven by the clubโ€™s Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, aimed at opening the doors of cricket to people from every background.

In true Steve fashion, he was quick to deflect any individual praise, making it clear this recognition belongs to the entire group involved. That humility is exactly what makes him such a valued part of our club โ€” always putting the team and community first. But without his effort, we wouldnโ€™t be recognised.

The Cricket Victoria Community Awards showcased initiatives from across the state, and this recognition is a testament to everyone involved at Mt Clear who continues to make our club a friendly, safe and inclusive place for all.

Well done Steve and everyone involved! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ
