Every kid who loves cricket has the same tell.

They'll bowl at a rubbish bin for an hour and they reckon every lbw shout is highway robbery.

Give that energy a proper court and watch what happens. Room to swing a bat properly, a ball that comes on, and a good honest run around with no screen in sight.

Turns out the best thing for a cricket-mad kid is just more cricket.

That crouch isn't an accident. Soft hands out in front, weight low, eyes locked on the ball well before it gets there.

It looks simple. It's actually one of the harder things to teach, reading the ball early enough to already be in position when it arrives.

Skills like that don't stay on the court either. Anticipation, quick decisions under pressure, that's the stuff that carries over into everything else a kid does.
