Our LPC riders - great activity for you to practice this month! Post videos of you doing this, in the comments 😍

Good training and a fun exercise πŸ™‚

If a horse ever gets something caught behind them out on a ride β€” a branch, rope, wire or even just noise following them β€” many horses will panic simply because they feel chased.

Exercises like this can teach horses to think instead of react.

The advantage during training is that you stay in control. If things become too much, you can simply let go and quietly repeat it another day until the horse understands there is nothing to fear.

And even if you never trail ride, situations like this can still happen in paddocks or around the property when nobody is there.

A little bit of training like this can make a very big difference later on πŸ™‚

Hey LPC members!
Your homework: 3 exercises that are super simple to set up and you can use the same poles for:

A
Ride along the track. At the corner letter, ride a leg-yield toward the first pole. Straighten the horse and ride straight forward along the pole. After the pole, ride another leg-yield toward the next pole. Straighten the horse and ride along the pole. Finish with a third leg-yield out to the corner letter.

This exercise is a good way to break the leg-yield into smaller parts so the horse maintains forward energy.

B
Ride a square over the poles. Ride straight lines with corner turns. This exercise gives you good practice in maintaining a calm tempo and planning your line over the poles.

C
Ride a serpentine with three loops across the arena.

Suitable to do in both directions. Master in walk first before you increase your gaits.

This year we have introduced a rally award. This award recognising a member or members in this month case that go above and beyond. This might be supporting other members, making it on time to gear check, putting in that extra effort to present their horse to gear check or achievable what they thought was unachievable.

This award is proudly supported by The Port Ice Creamery

This months winners were Shyla and Georgia for their encouragement towards everyone in their group but particularly each other. Each demonstrating the true meaning of pony club.
