Gravel bikes. They are everywhere these days. We even have a couple of cyclists who join in our weekly jaunt on theirs.

Are they cooler than "normal" bikes? That's a tough question to answer, as you don't buy a bike to be cool, but to do what you want.

This is a great article from Bicycle Network about what you need to think about if you are getting a gravel bike to add to the collection.

As cyclists, we are open to discussions about how we as a group can do things better. Riding single file along some roads. Trying to keep on shared pathways. Not riding without a front and rear light.

If you want to engage to help us understand where we need to lift our game, please let us know.

However, do NOT abuse. This happened last week, and we had to remove that person from the page. More than happy to discuss all aspects on where, as a collective, cyclists can improve, but don't be a k #$bhead about it.

In a day and age where Active Transport should be a no-brainer, it seems that we have to resort to petitions to get voices heard.

The petition is to get something sorted down in the beautiful area of Bermagui.

Tomorrows course is short but challenging.

Leaving 125 Auckland Street, we had down around the river, heading out to Reedy Swamp, and then up Doctor George to the end of the tar.

When we get down to East Street, we head left to reconnect to East Street. From there, we head up, up, up, up Lynjohn Dr. At the end, we turn left, and then right and snake down to Ravenswood for the sprint!

Finish at Francos for coffee.

To me, I can appreciate where Hayden is coming from. After sitting on the "Bega Tathra Safe Ride" committee for a couple of years, it still bugs me how and why councillors don't think that Active Transport are a good idea, especially in a beautiful tourist area such as a Bega Valley.

Bega Valley Cyclists will continue to voice for a stronger Active Transport strategy right across the Bega Valley, and hold councillors and council staff for not thinking of the bigger picture.

Climate change, the cost-of-living crisis and healthy lifestyle goals should make active transport like cycling a no-brainer. So why does Australia struggle to build a bike culture?

As a cyclist, these rules are a no-brainer, but yet we still have cyclists who think they are a law upon themselves.

Remember, if you are a cyclist, and you currently run amok, you are giving all cyclists a bad rub. Just the same as that one bad Camira driver (Yup, I am old) wold give all Camira's drivers the same!

Obey the road rules. Respect ALL other road users. Don't be a kn*b.

Dear Bega Valley Shire Council. Maybe, just maybe, you can undertake something like this to find out WHERE people actually, ride and provide coverage for those riders and other road users.

I think you would be surprised how many people actually ride their bikes for further than 10kms. Such a shame that Mitchell Nadin, Peggy Noble and Peter Haggar are unable to be tagged...
