I don't train women to look good in a bikini.
I mean, if that happens, great. But that is not why I care so much about getting women lifting heavy.
Here's what I actually care about.
By age 50, women can lose up to 20% of their bone density in the first five to seven years after menopause. Osteopenia (the stage before osteoporosis) often has no symptoms. Most women don't find out until a scan or, worse, a fracture.
One in two women over 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis.
Falls are the leading cause of injury-related death in adults over 65. And the biggest predictor of whether you survive a fall, and recover from it, is how much muscle mass you have going into it.
Strength training is the single most evidence-backed intervention for maintaining bone density, preserving muscle mass, and keeping you functional and independent as you age.
Not walking. Not yoga. Not pilates. Lifting.
The women I work with are mostly in their 20's, 30s and 40s. That is exactly the right time. You are not too late. You are actually right on time, because the investment you make now is what your 60, 70, and 80 year old self draws from.
Strength isn't an aesthetic goal. It's a 40-year investment.
And I want you making it.
