Dr. Ming Wang, a Harvard- and MIT-trained eye surgeon, came to the United States as an atheist convinced that science could explain reality without God.

That conviction began to change while he was studying medicine. As Wang examined the extraordinary complexity of the human eye, the coordination of its structures, cells, nerves, and visual-processing system, he began questioning whether what he was studying could be adequately explained, in his view, as the result of purely unguided processes.

A Christian professor challenged him with a simple comparison: if scattered pieces of metal do not spontaneously assemble themselves into a functioning car, Wang wondered, what should he make of something vastly more intricate like the human eye?

For Wang, that question did not instantly make him a Christian. His journey took several more years. But he says studying the eye opened the door to belief in a Creator and eventually to faith in Jesus Christ.

Today, Wang openly describes his journey from atheism to Christianity and has even titled one of his presentations:

“The Eye Convinced Me There Is a God.”

His life later inspired the film Sight, based on his autobiography From Darkness to Sight.

The more deeply he studied sight, the more convinced he became that creation pointed beyond itself toward a Creator.
