Today we rounded out our Tiwi Islands trip with a visit to Pularumpi School in Pirlangimpi on Melville Island. It was fantastic to see students aged 5–11 getting involved, having fun, and building their skills with bat and ball. A great way to finish an unforgettable trip!

It was great to get over to Tiwi College on Melville Island today, engaging with students from the ages 10-17.

Our first Girls-Only Social Smash wrapped up last week, with 31 girls taking part across four weeks. Participants built their batting, bowling and fielding skills before putting them into action through fun mini-games.

There was also plenty of music, dancing, cartwheels into bowling actions and bat decorating, creating a welcoming space where girls could be active, try new things and enjoy cricket their own way. Most importantly, the program helped build confidence, friendships and a stronger connection to the game.

This initiative is proudly funded by the Australian Government through the Play Our Way program, supporting more opportunities for women and girls to get involved in sport.

It was an honour to be hosted by Minister Jinson Anto Charls MLA at Parliament House.

A wonderful evening celebrating the Afghan Refugee Women’s XI and our NT Strike team alongside the wider cricket and sporting community.

Hearing the resilience and courage of the Afghan players was truly inspiring. It was also great to hear from former Australian cricketer Mel Jones OAM, a driving force behind the Afghan Refugee Women’s Team.

NT Cricket has welcomed Minister Charls' announcement around the Northern Territory Government’s $2.6 million investment into Wanguri Oval and Nakara Oval, with the upgrades set to strengthen community sport infrastructure across Darwin’s northern suburbs.

The upgrades form part of a broader commitment to improving grassroots sporting facilities and encouraging greater participation across all ages and abilities.

The funding will be provided as a dedicated grant to the City of Darwin, with both Wanguri Oval and Nakara Oval falling under City of Darwin jurisdiction.

NT Cricket Head of Clubs and Competitions Karl Mayne said the Wanguri Oval lighting upgrade would provide an important boost for cricket in Darwin.

"This investment will make a real difference to how we schedule community cricket and provide more flexible playing opportunities for clubs, participants and families."
