DAY 1 Women’s State Championships

⚾ Game 1 vs DBA
The GBA Women's Team faced a challenging start to their Winter Championships, going down 15-6 against DBA.

Despite falling behind early, the team responded with a strong third innings, scoring five runs. A clutch two run double from Jemma Hodges helped spark the offence - with Jemma, Jessica Curnow and Kira Kuwamoto going on to collect two hits each. Isla Hanna-Phillips and Jen Mason also contributed with a hit apiece.

On the mound, Jessica Curnow got the start before Kira Kuwamoto came on in relief, striking out four batters and continuing the battle against a strong opposition lineup.

⚾ Game 2 vs MWBL 1

The team produced a much stronger offensive performance in their second game of the Championships, collecting 11 hits in a hard fought 14-8 loss to MWBL1.

GBA struck first, with Ruby Benne driving in two runs with a first-inning single. Benne finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Jemma Hodges and Isla Hanna-Phillips also collected two hits each. Jordan Sollars, Rachel Talbot, Jess Robertson and Brea Gormley came away with a single hit.

In the field, Rachel Talbot, Ruby Benne and Isla Hanna-Phillips took important catches under pressure to help keep the team in the contest. Jen Mason started on the mound, attacking the strike zone, before Brea Gormley came on in relief and limited the opposition to just two hits.

While we didn’t come away with the wins, full credit to our team who continued to compete, support one another and look for opportunities throughout both games. Tomorrow, GBA Women take on BBA and MWBL2, with plenty of opportunities still available to secure a finals berth.

💙⚾ Let's go GBA!

🔴⚫ ROUND 8 RESULTS ⚫🔴

Both teams hit the road this week but unfortunately couldn't come away with the wins.

Division 1 was outscored by Lara, going down 14-3, while Division 3 jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hold on, eventually falling 10-7.

Division 1
The team collected 8 hits on the day, with Brendan Delorenzo going 1-for-3 and driving in 2 RBIs. Takahashi Ryoga continued his strong form, lacing a double down the line. On the mound, Josh Hay was impressive in relief, tossing 2 scoreless innings.

Division 3
The team showed excellent discipline at the plate, drawing an impressive 11 walks. The hits were shared across the lineup, with everyone contributing offensively. Dan Billings pitched well, consistently attacking the strike zone and trusting his defence behind him, while Josh Balcombe looked promising in his first pitching appearance of the season.
