On a glorious winter day, 22 people enjoyed deceptively pleasant weather when, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, we should have been freezing. Which we were at around 4pm, when the sun dipped below the trees.

In a refreshing change, we saw some new faces enter the winners’ circle today. Rob Ferguson was the only player to win all 3 games, although Susan and Adele were each 2 wins from 2 games. In the women’s competition, Susan triumphed while Adele and Isa shared the second spot. In the men’s competition, Rob came first, with Bob second and Seb third and Smitty lost his undefeated crown with his first loss of the year.

A huge thank you to Michael M for sweeping the piste, to Smitty and Adele for marking the lines and for umpiring one game each.

In the overall results, Smitty is still in the lead with Remi second and Greg third. In the women’s competition, Isa is in the lead overall with Adele second and Catherine third.

Nice to get a shout out in the Petanque Australia newsletter, still spots available for the singles in 3 weeks time.

We had 28 competitors for the May First Sunday of the Month competition, who enjoyed a couple of sun showers, as well as drizzle, mizzle or smirring, depending on where you grew up.

In the men’s competition Greg, Remi and Smitty all had 3 wins and were ranked in that order on the day. In the women’s competition, only Helen had 3 wins and won on the day with Isa second and Catherine third.

In the overall results, we are now 6 months in and at the half way point of the competition, Smitty is leading the men’s division, yet to lose a game 🤨 with Remi second and Greg third. Isa is leading the women’s competition with Catherine second and Candida third.

A huge thank you to Rob Meller for umpiring today and to Isa and Remi for doing the piste sweeping.
