WITH local rugby in the South West having a bye weekend, three Busselton Beetles players made the long trip to Mandurah to link up with the Bunbury Bulls, in what is the beginning of more exchanges between local and Perth teams.

Bodhi Robson and Brooklyn Marler put in strong shifts in the front row, taking on the physical work up front and providing a solid platform all day.

Hyrum Jenkins slotted in at lock before moving to his preferred position in the midfield, proving a valuable asset to the Bulls' fast backs by tackling, jackling, and combining well in the backline.

The U11s match came first, with Mandurah showing why they are regarded as one of the stronger sides in their local competition.

It was a hard-fought contest from start to finish, with little separating the sides, but the Bulls dug deep and edged it in a tight one, 14–10.

The U11/12s group then played a game of three halves against the Mandurah side due to the large numbers involved.

Mandurah fielded strong numbers in the U12s, with 25 players, while the Bulls had 23—including the three Beetles boys.

The Bulls came away more comfortably in the U12s, putting together some strong passages of play to take control of the game, with Hyrum among the try scorers, crossing for three tries as part of a strong team performance.

The players thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite the big drive there and back, and it was a valuable experience playing against strong opposition and combining with the Bulls, with plenty of new friendships made.

There was a very happy but tired trio of Beetles on the long trip home.

🔥 BEETLES ON FIRE IN AUSTRALIND 🔥

The U10s Busselton Beetles were on fire this weekend in Australind, combining with players from the Bunbury Bulls and Barbarians to take on the Margaret River Gropers.

Slick hands and strong support play were the order of the day.

Finley Ollerenshaw continues to impress with his all-round game, and his combination with halfback Bertie Davis again delivered results.

Finley broke through the Gropers’ midfield early, only to be pulled down near the 22, but Bertie was right there in support—scooping up the offload and racing away to open the scoring.

Not content with one, Bertie added another with a textbook blindside dart from the scrum that had defenders, spectators, and even a few coaches looking the wrong way.

The tries kept coming, with new signing Jude Hull making his mark with a brace.
Known for his presence and power, Jude also showed real pace, finishing a strong 30-metre dash to the line.

Rugby isn’t just about the tries though—it’s the small wins around the pitch that set them up.

Returnee Corbyn, along with Wylie Doble, both put in solid performances, helping deliver clean ball at the right time and keeping the Gropers under pressure with committed defence.

Ultimately, the Beetles prevailed, with the Bunbury-based players making a strong contribution.

Round 3 today in Australind. The U10s were supported by the Bunbury Junior Bulls and Bunbury Barbarians in a great game against the Margaret River Junior Gropers.
Whilst Finley took man of the match for his solid tackles and determined runs, he was well backed up by his team mates. Jude scoring two tries and Wylie unlucky to be held up right on the line.
Bertie made a great breakaway try from deep in his own half and Korbyn was efficient at stopping the Gropers getting through.
Well played Beetles 🪲
