LEVER ACTION METALLIC SILHOUETTE SHOOT

A large group of keen members with lever action rifles attended the Rankins Springs Range to compete in a Pistol Calibre Match and one for Centrefire Rifles.

In the Pistol Calibre event Marlin, Wi******er and Henry rifles were prominent in a variety of calibres including 32/20, .38Spl. , 357 Mag and .45 C**t. The 40 shot match has MS targets of varying size set at 40/50/75 and 100m. Some good scores were posted with the Chicken and Pig targets while the Turkey and Ram targets proved more elusive.

The Centrefire Rifle match saw mostly Wi******er and Marlin rifles in action with 30/30 Calibre being prominent, together with a lone 45/70. This 40 shot match was shot at 50,100,150 and 200m using full size MS targets. The 30/30 proved to be very effective in this match.

In the Pistol Calibre Match Noel McC. and Richard C. tied for Ist with 15 targets each. In the Centrefire Lever Action Match Bill D. was first with 20 targets followed by Ian B. with 15.

They received prizes of vouchers generously supplied by the Riverina Fi****ms Centre.

The next shoot will be a Three Positional Match on 14 June at the Rimfire Range followed by a 300m Fly Shoot at the Rankins Springs Range on 28 June.

BENCHREST BR30 MATCH
Two squads of Benchrest shooters were joined by some visitors and new shooters at the recent BR30 Benchrest Match held at the Rimfire Range. The BR30 Match is a precision match for .22LR rifles and requires the shooter to place 30 shots on a target set out with 30 small scoring targets set at 50m in 15 minutes.
While there are no restrictions on the rifle and its accessories rifles were divided into heavy benchrest types or light sporting type rifles.
Unfortunately the weather conditions were very cold with strong, brisk gusts of wind blowing across the range, making it extremely difficult to post an accurate score as the central bullseye is 1cm in diameter. Scoring is also worst edge scoring so if a shot breaks though a lower a line the lower score counts resulting in only several shots achieving a perfect bullseye for 100 pts.
In the Heavy rifle class Geoff C. top scored with 1135 pts followed by Benn W. with 1065 pts.
In the Light spotrer class section Robert C. shot a 620 pt target followed by Pasquale M. with 450 pts.
Top Junior was Liam G.
The shoot was generously sponsored by the Riverina Fi****ms Centre who provided cash vouchers for 1st and 2nd in each class and the prize for the Top Junior.
The next shoot will be at the Rimfire Range on 10 May when a Rimfire Silhouette match will be conducted. There will be no shoot on the ANZAC Weekend.
