SALOON CAR NATIONALS
Brad set the Benchmark for practice.
Onto qualifying this afternoon!
Qualifying starts at 1600.
Bring it on!
The mountain fired into life at 7:15am as the Fair Dinkum Builds Saloon Car Nationals got underway with Practice 1, and it didn’t take long for the drama to arrive.
On the opening lap, Dean Kelland in the #52 Arcadia Automotive Ford Falcon AU spun at The Chase, triggering an early red flag and sending the field back to pit lane. After the restart, Kohdi Cartledge in the #147 Solid Ford Falcon EA sidelined by electrical gremlins and unable to rejoin the session.
When the session resumed, the pace quickly built. Bradley Vaughan in the #80 Sedan Hotel Holden Commodore VT set the benchmark, the current Super2 driver for Brad Jones Racing and 2023 National winner laying down an early marker for the weekend. Garry Hills in the #93 AC Solar & Battery Holden Commodore VT slotted into second, with Scott Dornan in the #23 Action Line Marking Holden Commodore VY close behind as the front runners immediately showed their speed.
Jackson Callo in the #225 CEA Perth / Orh Ford Falcon AU impressed on debut at Mount Panorama, setting the 8th fastest time in his first ever outing at the circuit. In the Trophy Class battle, Jack Parham in the #97 GTS Crew / CIPG Ford Falcon EA emerged as the fastest, putting down a strong early statement.
Despite the early pace, the long-standing lap record of 2:35.9685, set by Shawn Jamieson back in 2011, remains intact for now.
With a strong field taking to the circuit , Practice 1 has already delivered drama, pace, and plenty of storylines heading into qualifying later today at 16:00.
