Heat 2 of the 2026 Fair Dinkum Builds Saloon Car Nationals got underway with Brad Vaughan in the #80 Sedan Hotel Holden Commodore VT leading the field into Turn 1, with Scott Dornan in the #23 Action Line Marking Holden Commodore VT right on his heels.

Drama struck at the top of the mountain when Chris Kneafsey in the #5 Hot Lap Motorsport Ford Falcon AU clipped the wall and ended up in the gravel trap, with several cars caught up in the incident. The Safety Car was deployed, and with more than 50% of the race time completed, the result was declared with Vaughan taking the win from Dornan and Brandon Madden in the #57 Riskie Racing / Harveys Towing Ford Falcon AU in third.

That sets the scene for tomorrow morning’s race at 07:15, with a South Australian front row lockout - Vaughan and Dornan sharing the front row. Madden lines up third, alongside Bathurst rookie Jackson Callo in the #225 CEA Perth / Orh Ford Falcon AU, with the leading Victorian Kane Baxter-Smith in the #56 Swift Solar Racing Ford Falcon AU starting from fifth.

In the Trophy Class, Marc Watkins in the #21 Affitto Equipment Solutions Ford Falcon EA will start from 15th, just ahead of Reg Ralph in the #41 Foxroofing Holden Commodore VN in 16th, while Ken Power in the #24 Power Driving Academy Holden Commodore VN lines up from 24th.

In the Pensioners Cup for the over 60s, Robert Marcon in the #82 Rick Gill Motorcycles Ford Falcon AU will start from 13th, with Chris Handley in the #111 HBR Motorsport Holden VY in 20th and Ken Power also featuring from 24th on the grid.

Set those alarms it’s shaping up to be a big one at sunrise.

New lap record 😏

Heat 1 of the 2026 Fair Dinkum Builds Saloon Car Nationals delivered right from the start at Mount Panorama.

There was early drama for Kane Baxter-Smith in the #56 Swift Solar Racing Ford Falcon AU, who stalled on the start and dropped from second to tenth, before fighting his way back through the field to finish fifth.

A Safety Car session was called after Vince Ciallella in the #12 Cachet Homes / GHR / Piacentini Holden Commodore VT made heavy contact with the wall at The Chase. Unfortunately, the damage is too extensive to repair at the circuit, bringing an early end to his weekend.

Brad Vaughan in the #80 Sedan Hotel Holden Commodore VT took the win and set a new lap record in the process, leading home Scott Dornan in the #23 Action Line Marking Holden Commodore VT in second, with impressive Bathurst rookie Jackson Callo in the #225 CEA Perth / Orh Ford Falcon AU charging to third.

In the Trophy Class, Marc Watkins in the #21 Affitto Equipment Solutions Ford Falcon EA was quickest, followed by Reg Ralph in the #41 Foxroofing Holden Commodore VN and Jack Parham in the #97 GTS Crew / CIPG Ford Falcon EA.

In the Pensioners Cup for the over 60s, Robert Marcon in the #82 Rick Gill Motorcycles Ford Falcon AU set the pace.

The race also saw multiple retirements, with Brock Ralph in the #13 Foxroofing Holden Commodore VT and Craig James in the #10 Automasters Holden VP both out with engine failures, Kohdi Cartledge in the #147 Solid Ford Falcon EA sidelined with a clutch issue, and Jason Cartledge in the #7 Solid Ford Falcon EA retiring with mechanical problems.

What a way to kick off racing and if that’s any sign, we’re in for a big weekend. Heat 2 is scheduled for 5:05PM this afternoon.

SALOON CAR NATIONALS

Brad set the Benchmark for practice.
Onto qualifying this afternoon!

Qualifying starts at 1600.

Bring it on!

The mountain fired into life at 7:15am as the Fair Dinkum Builds Saloon Car Nationals got underway with Practice 1, and it didn’t take long for the drama to arrive.

On the opening lap, Dean Kelland in the #52 Arcadia Automotive Ford Falcon AU spun at The Chase, triggering an early red flag and sending the field back to pit lane. After the restart, Kohdi Cartledge in the #147 Solid Ford Falcon EA sidelined by electrical gremlins and unable to rejoin the session.

When the session resumed, the pace quickly built. Bradley Vaughan in the #80 Sedan Hotel Holden Commodore VT set the benchmark, the current Super2 driver for Brad Jones Racing and 2023 National winner laying down an early marker for the weekend. Garry Hills in the #93 AC Solar & Battery Holden Commodore VT slotted into second, with Scott Dornan in the #23 Action Line Marking Holden Commodore VY close behind as the front runners immediately showed their speed.

Jackson Callo in the #225 CEA Perth / Orh Ford Falcon AU impressed on debut at Mount Panorama, setting the 8th fastest time in his first ever outing at the circuit. In the Trophy Class battle, Jack Parham in the #97 GTS Crew / CIPG Ford Falcon EA emerged as the fastest, putting down a strong early statement.

Despite the early pace, the long-standing lap record of 2:35.9685, set by Shawn Jamieson back in 2011, remains intact for now.

With a strong field taking to the circuit , Practice 1 has already delivered drama, pace, and plenty of storylines heading into qualifying later today at 16:00.
