Probably thé best encounter I have had with Dusky dolphins in the 8 years that I have been on the water!

This is the second Dwarf S***m Whale that has washed out on the beach in the 9 years we have been living in Paternoster....

This is the second Dwarf S***m Whale that has washed out on the beach in the 9 years we have been living in Paternoster. I was away for the weekend and had to liaise with DWAF, vets and the municipality to assist with euthenization of the whale.
Many thanks to Deon Kotze from DWAF, who arranged the approvals, dr Deon van Tonder from the Wellington Animal Hospital Group( WAHG) and Nazeema Duarte from Saldanha Bay municipality, Etienne Dorado from Dwarskersbos snake rescue and conservation. Dr Deon van Tonder was on hand for the euthanization and Etienne Dorado took samples for research purposes. Thanks to Jacqui and Wayne for assisting!

What a day! We decided to paddle to what the fisherman call "the island" On our way we went past Tamborine rock. Groups of Heaviside dolphins all around us! We then stopped on the beach at Groot Paternoster and then went to the beacon and seal island. Saw a whale in the distance, but decided to go back home. More dolphins at Tambourine. 20km paddle in perfect conditions!
16h30 we had a booking for 2 and the luck just carried on. Penguin and a huge whale feeding close to shore!
How blessed are we to experience this!
