Six weeks after suffering two strokes, Johene walked back into the LivFit studio. 🧡
Two months ago, Johene, 62, suffered a stroke. While in hospital, she suffered a second one. By the next day, she couldn’t speak and the right side of her body was severely affected.
The moment I found out, I called Alison, our trusted biokineticist . The next morning, we were on our way to the hospital.
I asked Johene, “Are you scared?”
She shook her head no.
Then I asked, “Do you trust me?”
She said yes.
So we started — with the smallest movements her body would allow. Gentle exercises, working on movement and range of motion, doing whatever we could to help her body start communicating again.
I also started researching ways to support her speech. We practised simple facial movements, sounds and little words like “coffee” and “morning.”
Three days later, she was home and the work continued.
Six weeks later, she was back in the studio.
And this is the part that makes my heart so full.
After all these years of training together, Johene, and I have become so much more than coach and clients. We’ve become friends. And throughout this entire journey, Z has been right there — by Johene’s side and by mine, at every visit. Thank you, Z ❤️
Johene is still rebuilding but the difference between that hospital bed and where she is today is incredible. I’m honestly blown away by her recovery.
One small movement. One word. One day at a time.
Johene, I am so incredibly proud of you. You were knocked down and you chose to get back up. ❤️
And Alison, thank you for showing up the moment I called. I am so grateful we got to walk this journey together.
This journey was yet another reminder of just how special this community is.
LivFit isn’t just a place to train. It’s a community. A place where people show up for each other, walk alongside each other, and sometimes become the biggest part of one another’s healing.
Stronger together. 🧡
