My perspective on working in the events industry.

What are you most passionate about?
Being on site and watching weeks of planning come together. You can prepare for every outcome and still arrive on the day to find that things need to change. That's where I'm at my best, reading the situation, staying calm and finding a fix that keeps everything moving. Preparation matters, but being able to adapt matters just as much.

How did economics shape your perspective on working in the events industry?
I hold a BCom in Economics, and I didn't expect it to follow me into events quite so much. People often see this industry as purely creative, but so much of it is about understanding people. Economics taught me to think about why people make the choices they do, what they value and how they react when things change. In events, that means anticipating what guests will want before they ask for it, knowing where the crowd will gather and reading the room as the day unfolds. It also taught me that every decision has a trade off. When something changes on site, there's rarely a perfect option, just the best one available in that moment. Being able to weigh that up quickly is something I use more than I ever expected.

What do you find most rewarding?
Honestly, it's a little funny. You spend weeks, sometimes months, on something that's over in a few hours. Late nights, sleepless nights and before you know it the guests have gone and the team is packing up. JUst before that, there's a moment when you stand back and watch people enjoying it. Knowing what it took to get there, every problem solved and every last minute change, makes it all worth it.

What has working in events taught you?
The success of an event isn't about having the perfect plan. It's about how you adapt when things change. Events have taught me patience, resilience and the power of a great team. They've also given me a deep appreciation for the detail and care behind every successful moment. You can plan for almost everything, and the real magic happens when you think on your feet. Some of the most rewarding parts of the job come from finding creative solutions in the moment.
