The first person you have to convince is yourself.
There’s a moment when your body gets tired and your mind starts negotiating.
“I’ll go hard on the next one”
“I’ll run faster on Matchday”
“What’s one rep going to change”
We all have that voice. You can’t hide from it, or change it overnight.
That voice is actually there to protect you. Your brain is constantly monitoring what’s happening in your body. Fatigue, discomfort and pain are signals designed to protect you from injury.
An athletes job is not to silence the voice, but learn to understand it.
Sharp pain? Stop.
Something feels wrong? Stop.
Sometimes the voice is simply responding to discomfort.
You’re tired.
The work is hard.
You’ve reached the edge of what feels comfortable.
And that’s where an athlete learns to ask:
“Do I need to stop, or do I just want to?”
That answer takes experience.
It takes
And it takes building the habit of pushing further.
Over time, you become better at recognising the difference between a warning and an excuse.
That voice will never completely disappear.
You can’t hide from it.
You can’t outrun it.
But you can train your relationship with it.
The voice in your head can hold you back or help you move forward.
Don’t silence it.
Learn it.
Train it.
Do More. Be More.
