Netball South Africa has taken a significant step towards the professionalisation of the sport, announcing an expanded group of 17 contracted national players, supported by an additional seven training partners, as part of its ongoing commitment to building a competitive and sustainable high-performance system.
The 12-month contracts, effective from 1 April 2026, mark a key milestone in strengthening the national squad pipeline, enhancing player support, and positioning South Africa more competitively on the international stage.
While specific remuneration details remain confidential, Netball South Africa confirmed that players will be compensated according to structured categories, aligned to their experience, number of caps, and role within the national set-up.
Netball South Africa President, Mami Diale, highlighted the significance of the announcement:
โWe are very intentional about professionalising netball in South Africa. We recognise that this is a journey that requires time, investment, and consistency โ but this moment represents meaningful progress. Ten players were contracted in the previous financial year. To support growth and provide opportunities for players, it was necessary to contract an additional seven players based on their performance.
We congratulate all the players who have been contracted. The selection process was rigorous, and we are confident that the coaching team has identified a group capable of representing the country with excellence.
This marks the beginning of a new era for netball in South Africa โ one where players are increasingly supported to pursue the sport at the highest level. Creating opportunities for athletes to earn a living through netball is a critical part of that vision, and we are proud to take this step forward.โ
Chief Executive Officer, Adam Brooke, added:
โThis initiative forms part of our broader high-performance and commercial strategy to elevate netball in South Africa. By investing in our athletes and creating a structured, performance-driven environment, we are laying the foundation for sustained success โ both locally and internationally.
As we build towards upcoming global competitions, including the Netball World Cup cycle, this expanded group ensures depth, continuity, and readiness within the national system.โ
All players will be on performance-based contracts, with movement between the contracted squad and training partners determined by performance, form, and team requirements.
