This is a gentle way to encourage diving πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ further. Swimmers will know that if they hit the soft mat it won't hurt. The teacher can also help adjust the length depending on how far out/forward the swimmer is able to dive.

Backstroke Week
🏊 When doing backstroke kick we keep the legs long

It's time for 50m Backstroke. Did you know in the Backstroke Turn you can turn onto your stomach for the last stroke before somersaulting. But make sure it's only one stroke! πŸ€Έβ€β™€πŸŠπŸŸ

Crawl kicking on the side helps swimmers with learning how to continue to kick whilst breathing with the ear on the arm. For an added challenge, swimmers can bend the elbow (like a shark fin) which makes them work harder to stay afloat.

Here we are teaching rotation with a still head. If the head moves then the body wiggles, so we rotate along a long axis with a still head. You can do this on the tummy for crawl or on the back for backstroke.

Freestyle or Crawl?! When we refer to the stroke, it's Crawl but when it's an event in a competition it's called Freestyle and theoretically you can do ANY stroke you want for a Freestyle event (but people usually do Crawl cos it's the fastest stroke)
